Job Title: Financial Controller, South Sudan
Reporting Unit / Supervisor: Country Manager
Location: Yei, South Sudan
Travel: 15% domestic, 5% international travel

Program Description: As part of a 10 year vision, TechnoServe in partnership with Nespresso aims to re-build a coffee industry in South Sudan.
The opportunity for coffee to have a positive impact in South Sudan is significant as coffee can be South Sudan’s first major agricultural export. Coffee has the potential to facilitate a “grassroots” form of wealth generation and economic development.
Coffee would provide much needed income and security for thousands of farmers and their families living in coffee communities and has the potential to play an important role in helping to diversify the economic base in the country.

Position Description: TechnoServe is seeking a Financial Controller who will be responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the country program in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and TechnoServe’s financial policies.
The Financial Controller is also responsible for efficient and sound financial management to the Country’s programs.
Additionally, the Controller will prepare financial information to assist management, its clients, and stakeholders in making informed decisions about the country program’s future.
They will also be responsible for reporting to corporate headquarters on all program finances.
Responsibilities listed but not limited to the below:
Implement grant tracking/monitoring system, monitoring grant expenditures in order to identify any irregularities.
Manage payroll and expense reimbursements for local staff
Produce periodic management reports for senior staff
Prepare cash flow statements, expenditure accounts, monthly and annual closing of accounts
Monitor cash flow and work closely with TechnoServe Headquarters to manage shortfalls/surpluses
Work with the Country Manager to prepare project, annual and multi-year budgets
Analyze variances and explore potential problems with project budget, working closely with staff to forecast and address any variances
Responsible for all financial planning, forecasting, budget management and reporting for TechnoServe South Sudan
Prepare financial reports on monthly basis for internal use and for external reports to donors
Prepare periodic budgetary control statements to determine project financial performance and suggest corrective action, if required
Process checks and code expenditures (travel advances, imprest and purchase requisition)
Participate in internal and external audits by providing auditors with accounting documents as requested and provide explanations for audit queries
Manage compliance with South Sudan tax laws
Required Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Financial Management with minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and financial management. With an advanced degree/MBA a minimum of 3 years’ experience is required
Deep knowledge of best practices in financial management required
Excellent knowledge of Excel, Access Word and PowerPoint required
Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamic NAV Systems a plus, or similar finance and accounting software
Good leadership skills and strategic orientation
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Financial management and reporting skills
Excellent understanding of accrued accounting
Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills
Excellent management skills and ability to work in a team environment
Excellent verbal and written command of English
Command of Juba Arabic or Baari language a plus
Prior experience with an NGO a plus
Knowledge of Grants management a plus
Knowledge of key donor reporting requirements (USAID, World Bank and other international donors) an advantage
Professional accounting certification (e.g. CPA, ACCA) preferred
Experience and understanding of not-for-profit accounting a plus
South Sudan candidates are preferred, but candidates from East Africa regions are welcome to apply
