Organizational Development Lead

Project Overview: AfyaInfo is a five-year (2011–2016), $32 million project funded by USAID/Kenya.



Its overall goal is to support Kenya to strengthen the health information systems at both the national and county level, give health managers access to real-time, dis-aggregated and high quality health data necessary to inform evidence based decision making at all levels of the health system.


The project supports GOK efforts to unify multiple, parallel data systems into a single integrated, web-based National Health Information System (NHIS) that improves the collection and analysis of health data that are used for programmatic and policy decision making.

The USAID-funded AfyaInfo Project works collaboratively with the Division of Health Informatics, Monitoring and Evaluation (DivHIME) of the Ministry of Health.



The Opportunity: AfyaInfo works with the GOK to build technical and management capacity needed to make the NHIS successful and sustainable, and the sole source of data for all health sector stakeholders, including development partners and United States Government implementing partners.

The project is currently seeking an Organizational Development (OD) Lead for the Output 3 work who will collaborate with U.S. based technical specialists and local consultants to provide technical leadership and oversight on project activities related to organizational development and change management.


Key Responsibilities



Provide management and oversight of ongoing OD activities to ensure successful implementation of the Year 5 work plan related to OD

Manage the 03 Organizational Development budget.

Provide direction and plan for implementation of OD activities.

Work with other output leads and project leadership to coordinate and, when appropriate, collaborate on activities to ensure an integrated approach to implementing OD activities.

Mange short-term technical assistance consultants (STTA) and subcontractors who are currently implementing OD activities as well as other identified consultants/subcontractors on-boarded during the period of performance.

Liaises with the national and county counterparts to ensure buy-in for OD activities.

Provide regular status and progress reports to USAID and Abt Associates.

Conduct discrete OD project activities when appropriate.

Participate in project and stakeholder meetings as appropriate to successfully manage outputs.

Participate in external technical networks/meetings /working groups at the national and county level as appropriate to represent the project and ensure collaboration of relevant technical work


Qualifications and Experience:

The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications and experience:



Minimum 7 years of experience in organizational development in the public sector. Experience in the following areas is a plus: Health Information Systems, change management, public/private partnerships.

Experience working with the Kenyan MOH. Knowledge and experience working with the Division of Health Informatics Monitoring and Evaluation a plus.

Extensive activity management experience and in leading program activities as part of a donor-funded project;

Good presentation skills.

Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Master’s Degree in Organizational Development, Business Administration or related field.


Other Considerations: This is a full‐time consultancy position starting immediately until the end of March 2016.



This is a local consultancy position.
