Public Relations / Communications Officer at Nuclear Power Agency


The Nuclear Power and Energy Agency, formerly Kenya Nuclear Electricity Board (KNEB), is a State Corporation established under the Energy Act 2019. It is charged with the responsibility of promoting and implementing Kenya’s Nuclear Power Programme, carrying out research and development for the energy sector.

Reporting to the Regional Manager, the jobholder will be responsible for creating and raising public awareness on nuclear energy by way of demystifying myths associated with the applications of nuclear technology to build public confidence and earn its support for implementation of nuclear power in Kenya by:



  1. Preparing and supervising the production of publicity brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia programmes to create awareness amongst stakeholders on nuclear energy development in Kenya;

  2. Updating and moderating information and engaging with users on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook on nuclear technology;

  3. Implementing community management programs;

  4. Liaising with community stakeholders;

  5. Analyzing community complaints and carrying out surveys;

  6. Conducting community research findings on Nuclear perceptions;

  7. Conducting stakeholder’s engagement surveys/ opinion polls on Kenya’s Nuclear Power Programme;

  8. Implementing stakeholder engagement policies, plans and programmes for Kenya’s nuclear programme that include stakeholder identification, mapping and categorization;

  9. Managing of Knowledge Sharing Centre’s (KSCs) to share the relevant information for the knowledge of the public to accept the local use of nuclear;

  10. Coordinating of media events, press briefings conferences and follow on any media issues of interest to the organization at the Regional Office;

  11. Implementing corporate communication and media strategies, plans and programs to support achievement of corporate objectives;

  12. Producing in-house journals, newsletters, corporate and other related publications in promotion of Agency Brand at the Regional Office;

  13. Implementing all stakeholder education outreach programs and activities by ensuring all Agency’s events are well organized, branded and ensure photo and video coverage and proper documentation of events at the Regional Office;

  14. Implementing Agency’s CSR strategy, plans and programs; and

  15. Translating technical nuclear information to messages that can be understood and actioned by ordinary citizens.

  16. In the execution of this assignment, the Public Relations/ Communication Officer will be expected to ensure and uphold exemplary corporate Governance in line with the organization’s core values and promote a robust performance-driven culture.


Requirements


Academic and Professional Qualifications



  1. Candidates must have the following qualifications: –

  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or relevant qualifications from a recognized institution in Kenya.

  3. Relevant professional qualifications/ certification, PRSK/ MSK membership and be in good standing.


Related Job Experience



  1. Must have at least three (3) years relevant work experience.


Knowledge Skills and Competencies


The candidate must possess the following skills and competencies: –



  1. Demonstrable knowledge of the Energy Sector in Kenya.

  2. Meet the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

  3. Excellent Communication and Interpersonal skills
