Jhpiego Technical Advisors, Technical Officers and ICT Officers Jobs in Kenya

Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, is an international NGO supporting health programs to improve the health of women and their families.

Jhpiego-Kenya works in close collaboration with both the Ministry of Medical Services and the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation in the areas of HIV, Malaria, TB, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Reproductive Health and Family Planning.

We are currently recruiting experienced individuals with excellent technical skills, who are team players, dedicated, hard working, innovative, highly motivated and able to work in a high pressure environment requiring multi-tasking abilities.

Technical Advisor - Male Circumcision (1 Position)

Technical Advisor - HIV Testing and Counseling (1 Position)

Jhpiego is a partner in the APHIAplus Zone 1 (Western & Nyanza) project within a consortium led by Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH). APHIAplus project is working closely with the Government of Kenya and a wide variety of partners to strengthen health care services throughout these provinces.

The Technical Advisor, Male Circumcision (MC) and Technical Advisor HIV Testing and Counseling (HTC) are to be based in Kisumu. They will spend significant time working throughout the Zone 1 region to support improved access to quality MC and HTC services.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership to the APHIAplus Zone 1 Project for all MC/HTC activitiesSupervise all MC/HTC activities for the project and coordinate implementation of MC/HTC services within project areas and Participate in all technical working group meetings.Ensure integration between HIV and other clinical areas, as well as non-health areasProvide mentorship and supportive supervision of health care workers in MC/HTC, with a focus on quality assurance / quality improvementStrengthen linkages between facilities service delivery and communityParticipate in preparation of budgets, work plans, reports and other technical papersAssist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and/or annual reportsAssist in program monitoring and evaluationLiaise with the Ministries of Health officialsQualifications and Requirements
A graduate degree in medicine. A degree in public health will be an added advantageAt least 5 years experience in implementing HIV and or Reproductive Health service delivery programs.MC experience is a must for the Advisor, MC position.A demonstrated track record of providing mentorship and supervision for strengthening healthcare services, in MC or HTC respectively and training in quality improvement approachesExperience working with MOH personnel and good knowledge of health systems and programsCritical thinking and troubleshooting skills to facilitate program implementationExcellent analytical, communication and report writing skillsDemonstrated ability to work with efficiency and diplomacy, as part of a team effortComputer literacy, particularly in the use of MS office.Technical Officers, RH/FP/MNCH

Technical Officers will spend significant time working within his/her defined geographic area to support health facility staff and communities to improve access to quality reproductive health family planning and maternal and child health services.

Responsibilities

ICT Officer-Servers and Network

Reporting to the ICT Advisor, the ICT Officer-Servers and Network will be responsible for the effective running of the servers and networks at Jhpiego Kenya’s offices.

Responsibilities

Setup, configuration, monitoring and management of server hardware and applications, network equipment and services, Internet and VPN links, and UPSes and other power backup systemsDiagnosis and resolution of service requests reported by the ICT User Support teamEscalation of service requests and follow up as necessary Maintenance of system and configuration change documentationMinimum of Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalentMicrosoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certifications for Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure Configuration and Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure ConfigurationMinimum Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certificationMinimum 3 years relevant experienceExperience with server hardware from major vendorsExperience with server operating systems and client/server based application software, including awareness of version limitationsExperience with VMware virtualisation platformICT Officer-User Support and Client Systems

Reporting to the ICT Advisor, the ICT Officers will be responsible for client systems (desktops, laptops and phones), user support and on-the-job training at their assigned offices.

Responsibilities

Set up, configuration and management of desktops, laptops, printers and phone handsetsInstallation and maintenance of software on client systemsMaintenance of system and configuration change documentationProvision of Level 1 user support (diagnosis and resolution of basic desktop/laptop, printer, peripheral and software faults)Escalation of service requests and follow up as necessaryFollowing instructions to run basic network monitoring reports or utilitiesPerformance of basic diagnostic and recovery routines on network equipmentIdentification of routine desktop and application support issues and provision of training for staff as requiredMaintenance of ICT User GuideEnsuring user compliance with ICT policies and guidelinesMicrosoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST)Minimum 2 years relevant experience in a similar capacityConfident user of Windows client operating systems and common desktop applications (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc)Understanding of client/server based applicationsUnderstanding of the basic principles of structured network cabling and the practicalities of connecting network devicesKnowledge and experience in supporting an Avaya IP Office telephone system will be an added advantageAttention to details, analytical thinking, good communication skills and self organizedInterested applicants should send a CV and detailed cover to HR-Kenya@jhpiego.net not later than 18th February 2011.
