Our client owns a luxury tented Kenyan safari camp in the Mara which consists of 12 sleeper tents and cater to a maximum of 24 guests, which is located about 240km due west of Nairobi.
Roles and Key Responsibilities:
•Responsible for the maintenance and up-keep of all camp infrastructure including vehicles, generators, water systems, equipment and fittings.
•Maintain all maintenance schedules and records of works completed.
•Report any issues outside the scope of daily work to operations manager
•Oversee pool maintenance and cleaning
•Carry out regular checks on all equipment and all servicing as required
•Maintain records of all relevant consumables and ensure re-supply with BOH supervisor
•Ensure that all workshop equipment is accounted for daily and in its correct storage location
•Ensure that all communication toward other employees, guests, suppliers and any visitor to site is polite, positive and conducive with a harmonious workplace.
•Reporting all relevant issues to management
•Motivate and be proactive in encouraging team commitment and spirit
•Assist any other department/employee as and when required and possible
•Any reasonable request from management outside the normal duties listed
•Respond to any maintenance issue regardless of time, day or hours
•Keep the (company supplied) phone charged and the line free for clear contact at any point in time
Person Specification
•Ability to work within a small team with an attitude towards ‘helping out’ anywhere it may be required.
•Strong training and coaching skills with patience towards other team members.
•Have practical ‘hands on’ skills with tools and equipment.
•Ability to identify and priorities maintenance issues to ensure the smooth operations of a safari camp/lodge
•Ability to work in a remote environment and to solve problems with limited access to resources while still maintaining the quality of the guest experience.
•Ability to work within a budget
Qualifications:
•Trade certification in one or more of the following- electrician, plumber, mechanic; and/or
•At least 5 years experience working in a safari lodge/camp as senior maintenance personnel.
•English & Swahili speaking
•Current Kenyan drivers license and proven driving experience
•Experience with driving and maintaining a tractor
•Experience working with and maintaining typical safari lodge infrastructure such as generators/inverters, waste water treatment systems, commercial kitchen/laundry/workshop equipment, 4wd vehicles and tractor.
•Experience with ordering, stock/inventory controls and maintenance records in a hospitality environment.
