4 Ways To Easily Lose Your Job Even Before Starting

How You Can Easily Lose Your Job

By Jane Okoth

When looking for a job, most people make mistakes whether it’s during job application or arriving late at the interview.

One Emily wrote to me about her experience which I found rather sad. She had been working in a manufacturing firm for the past two years before she got another job offer from another company.

The company had even gone ahead to inform her of the start date and she had been given a one week to prepare for the new job which sadly was never to be.
Why you ask?

1.Changes in the department
Just a few days before her official starting day, she was notified that her offer was cancelled because there were “changes in the department” and she should wait for official communication.

You can imagine that for over 3 months now, she is unemployed and to make it worse how do you start explaining this to your former boss to have you back?

2. Ranting on social media
I recently came across a story on the daily mail publication about a teenager who was fired from her job at a pizza shop.

Before she even started the job, she sent out a tweet complaining about the job and her new boss saw it.
In a hilarious Twitter exchange, a twitter user who goes by ‘Cella’ wrote:

‘Ew I start this f*** a** job tomorrow.’

The next morning, Robert Waple – the owner of Jet’s Pizza in Mansfield, Texas – tweeted at her:

#’And….no you don’t start that FA job today! I just fired you! Good luck with your no money, no job life!’

So it turns out she will not be starting any job after all.

3.Being late on the first day of work
Dennis Kamau, a Sales Manager at an Insurance Firm recalls how he was looking forward to his first job but things did not turn up as he expected.

“The reporting time was 8.00 am but I was in a serious traffic jam and arrived at the office at 10.00.

My new boss said that it was unacceptable to come to work late on the first day and thought that I was not taking the job seriously. To cut the story short, that was how he lost a job before starting!

4. Failing to follow instructions

“I was once called for an interview in the position of a content writer where I was required to carry samples of my published work together with my CV,” says Nicole Mutindi who is now a Video Editor at a Production Company.

“It just happened that on the day of the interview, I had my CV but forgot to carry my samples works with me,” she said.

The interviewer was very direct and told her that she should forget about getting the job since she had ignored instructions.

As you start job searching this week, be cautious not to become a victim of these circumstances.

Have an employable day!
