Murang’a County is in the process of establishing County Broadcast media and Resource center. This will be an avenue for people from Murang’a within the county and in the diaspora, to engage with the government of the day in information dissemination as well as educating and entertaining the audience.

In preparation for this venture, the county government is thus seeking to employ communication assistants who will carry out various assigned duties as follows;

Information Officer Job description

Generating ideas for stories and features and following leads from news agencies, thepolice, the public, press conferences and other sources within the county.

Researching and collating evidence and information to support a story using relevant information sources such as the internet, archives, databases, etc.

Writing scripts and reports both for airing or archiving.

Selecting appropriate locations, pictures and sound and exercising editorial judgment on the best angle to approach a story from.

Using portable digital video (DV) cameras and other equipment to record material and appropriate editing software to produce complete packages for broadcast.

Developing and maintaining local contacts and assuming a public relations role.

Engaging with internal stakeholders to help generate audience facing materials in keeping with topical issues.

Understanding and complying with media law and industry codes of conduct.

Any other duty assigned.

Potential candidates will need to show evidence of some or all of the following:

An interest in news, current affairs and a good general knowledge.

Excellent written communication.

Good oral communication, with an authoritative voice, confidence in front of a camera and an ‘on air’ presence.

An understanding of appropriate technical equipment and relevant editing software.

Ability to work under pressure, both within teams and individually.

Outstanding analytical skills and ability to absorb extract and present information in a clear and understandable way.

An interest in people/building rapport, able to handle interactions with sensitivity, empathy and diplomacy.

An eye for a story, with an ability to generate original ideas and the confidence to pitch to senior editors.

An understanding of search engines, social media and other digital marketing.

Resourcefulness and creative problem

solving skills.

Academic Qualifications

BA in Communications, Journalism or English.

Working exposure in a mainstream media house or a corporate, in a similar position.

Excellent command of the English language. Expert writing skills, editing and proofreading abilities
