About Carolina for Kibera (CFK): Founded in 2001, Carolina for Kibera (CFK) exists to offer motivated individuals in the Kibera slum tools and opportunities to become healthy, educated, and self-sufficient. 


With a focus on youth, CFK’s first program, a community-based sports program, promotes ethnic, gender and religious cooperation in Kibera. 


CFK has since expanded to serve the community in a holistic manner through a network of programs in the areas of health, social and economic development– offering low-cost high-quality medical care, sexual health education, entrepreneurship training, and adolescent girls’ empowerment, among other initiatives.


About the Position: Over the past 14 years, Carolina for Kibera has pioneered a low-cost, high-impact model of participatory development program development and built a brand that is recognized locally, nationally, and internationally.


CFK is ready to accelerate its growth — launching new initiatives to respond to burgeoning needs and securing a financial foundation for CFK’s long-term commitment to the Kibera community.


We are looking for a dynamic, hands-on leader to serve as program coordinator for the Maternal, health program. 


With Save the Children as the lead implementer, CFK will be implementing a MNCH, Nutrition and Family Planning project in Kibera Informal settlement. 


The objective of the program is to improve the maternal and child health status of marginalized communities living in urban informal settlements in Kibera, Nairobi County. 


The specific objective of the action is to increase access to and enhance coverage of quality maternal and child health, nutrition and family planning services for women and children living Kibera informal settlement of Nairobi County.


The program coordinator will set bold, ambitious goals and execute them with the support of the team and partner organization. 


This is a leadership position that involves frequent interaction with the senior management team, community and partner organizations.


This is a full-time position based in the Kibera slum of Nairobi, Kenya with the following primary responsibilities: 


Responsible for the day to day implementation of this program by working closely with the Kibra-SCHMT, Public and private health facility staff and community health Units 

Take part in planning, implementation, and monitoring of all aspects of the EC, MNCH,and Nutrition FP program in Kibera to meet program objectives. 

In liaison with partners ensure the MNCH/FP is implemented according to the detailed implementation plan and in collaboration with other private health providers in Kibera. 

In collaboration with the HoD and MEAL, develop/review work plans and budget, as deemed necessary and implement the MCHN/FP project in Kibera. 

Participate and represent CFK in various health coordination forums at working meetings and partners at field level as need be. 

Be fully aware of the grant compliance regulations of the donors in relation to the project. 

Prepare timely project narrative reports as required and submitted for sharing with SCI and partners and to document project success, challenges and lessons. 

Together with other partners, develop functional community health units in designated areas to support in implementation of the MNCH/FP. 

Support in development/sourcing of IEC materials and dissemination of messages during community meetings and youth forums; use of mobile phones, posters, radio and wall murals 

Facilitate field visits to field sites for donor representation and others. 

Participate actively in health management meetings called upon by partners and S/CHMT. 

To provide leadership and assistance to the community outreach staff (project officers) supporting in implementation of the MCHN/FP 

Develop and encourage innovative solutions in implementation of the project. 

Participate in dialogue days to keep community updated on progress of project. 

Build, maintain, and provide leadership to a high-functioning multi-cultural team


● Uphold the ideals of participatory development, ensuring that all aspects of CFK’s work promotes inclusion, dignity and integrity


Knowledge/Skills/Experience


Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Nursing, Community Development, International Development or related field

A Masters degree will be an added advantage

2 Year experience in implementation of community Health Strategy is highly desirable

Experience in working in informal settlement.

Knowledgeable on Maternal and child health Programing including RH/FP/Nutrition

Experience in working with partners and donor funded projects
