A fast growing Construction, Contracting and Real Estate firm with its Head Office in Kerugoya (Kirinyaga County) Town and with interests in all major towns in Kenya seeks to recruit a highly dynamic Civil Engineer to manage its projects portfolio and to enable the company venture into new areas of growth.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Projects Manager, the Civil Engineer shall direct all construction projects in the company’s portfolio.
The Civil Engineer may be required to work long and odd hours, sometimes working over the weekends and public holidays mostly outside the office inspecting works on site.
In particular, the Civil Engineer will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
Assisting the Projects Manager to Prepare and manage the company’s strategic and project plans, budgets, project schedules resources and cash flows in accordance with company goals;
Reviewing project designs, site plans, scope management, improvement plans for project coordination. Risk management and accuracy;
Co-coordinating the efforts of all parties involved in the project, which include the surveyors, architects, consultants, utility providers, contractors, sub-contractors and laborers;
In consultation with the appropriate manager, recruit, interview and select staff and/or volunteers with appropriate skills for the project activities;
Ensure monthly preparation, submission of acceptable certificates to the consultant / Engineer and ensure approval is granted as per contract;
Ensuring all legal and regulatory requirements during project development and execution are fully complied with;
Be responsible and coordinate the submission of designs and drawings to approving authorities at the national or county levels and follow up to ensure timely approvals;
Oversee the carrying out of environmental & social impact assessments (EIAs) by the relevant consultants;
Carrying out on site safety inspections and oversight during work executions and monitoring high risk work execution to ensure no incidents occur;
Generating project reports including site meeting minutes, maintaining proper site documents and a document control system to ensure projects are managed to world class standards;
Managing all project stakeholders including developing, deploying, managing and maintaining an effective communication strategy and system to ensure all stakeholders are adequately engaged and communicated to;
Any other duty assigned by the Projects Manager and which is standard industry practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering/Construction/Project Management/Quantity Surveying;
Post graduate training in project management is an added advantage.
Five (5) years’ experience in project management in a busy firm
Ability to plan, organizes, coordinate, motivate, lead and boost morale of the teams;
Optimum utilization of all resources;
Team player with excellent communication skills
Presentable, Excellent communication and report writing skills.
Excellent interpersonal and business networking skills.
Key Competencies:
Competency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Project
Conversant with OHSA and HSE procedures
Analytical, organization and planning skills
Supervisory/Managerial, good communication skills,
Good reporting & Presentation skills
Firm and assertive but with excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
Strong work ethic, professionalism and productivity driven mind-set.
Sensitivity to confidential matters is a required.
