Program Administrator and International Outreach Officer


TICAH, the Trust for Indigenous Culture and Health, was founded in Kenya in 2003 to enhance the positive links between health and cultural knowledge, practice, belief, and artistic expression. Its work spans Africa and Asia, focuses on AIDS and traditional medicine, sexuality and gender, food and art activism.


The trust does research and training in comprehensive AIDS care, policy work to improve the quality of and availability of treatment choices, projects to encourage recognition of positive living as a lifelong process, convening of conferences and expert committees, documentation to stimulate attention to grassroots solutions, and activist advocacy to raise our voices in effective ways, ways that influence policies and programs.


TICAH is also registered as a 501(c)3 nonprofit (TICAH – USA) in New York. It has an independent Board of Directors and supports TICAH in its work to resource and run companion programs and exhibitions.


Position Description


TICAH is looking to hire a full-time Program Administrator and International Outreach Officer to support the organization as it grows its programs in Kenya and strengthens their links to TICAH USA. This position will act as the bridge between program work in the community and donors/supporters in Kenya and internationally.


Supporting the organization in a number of ways in order to grow the impact of the organization within Kenya, the Program Administrator and International Outreach Officer will be responsible for the following:


International Outreach Support (in coordination with the Director and Deputy Director)


  • Represent TICAH in the USA

  • Liaise with the TICAH USA Board of Trustees – attending meetings, preparing briefs, coordinating visitors and donors

  • Assist in the management of relationships with donors, particularly those outside of Kenya

  • Represent the organization at workshops and events as required

  • Help raise funds by identifying new grant opportunities, in education, health, culture, and arts sectors, and assisting in application processes

  • Participate in monitoring and evaluation of TICAH programs and in the development of materials designed to attract attention to our work

Grants Management


  • Track funding opportunities, proposals, and grants for the organization

  • Create a database of all organizational grants, past and present

  • Maintain grant report calendar and assist with grant-related writing and reporting, as needed, helping keep everyone aware of deadlines

  • Work with accountant to keep QuickBooks grant funds and financial reports up to date

Communications


  • Edit and/or write for website, grant reports, events, programs, as needed

  • Complete the archive of TICAH Kenya and TICAH USA Board materials

  • Assist in archiving TICAH materials, photos, video, etc.

  • Help write TICAH newsletters, website, and social media content

  • Assist in printing and production of TICAH materials

  • Become expert at creating photo galleries of TICAH program events for donors

Organization Administrative Support


  • Develop the project portfolio: reporting, tracking, and evaluation

  • Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of TICAH programs, as needed

  • Work closely with TICAH’s accountant to keep grant budgets up to date, to manage petty cash, reconcile expenditures, oversee salary payments, and assist with banking tasks for the organization

  • Help convene and plan Board meetings and distribute materials

  • Assist with TICAH events and travel arrangements

  • Create/maintain TICAH contact lists and calendar distribution lists

Qualifications


Candidates for this position should have at least 3 years experience working within the NGO sector in Kenya and be passionate about the vision of TICAH. Candidates must also have experience working across cultures with donors and other interested individuals. In addition, candidates must have:


  • At least a Bachelors degree

  • A successful track record of managing organizational programs in a global capacity and building partnerships.

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written. Fluency in other languages relevant to the work is also helpful.

  • Experience living and working in Africa is desirable

  • Experience with global grant making and US-based donors and Boards

  • Knowledge of donor priorities in at least two TICAH program areas
