A company in Kenya is seeking to recruit suitable candidates for the following positions:
Reporting To: Head – Agriculture and Technical Support Team
Duty Station: Kwale County1. Irrigation Engineer
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Plans and organize the activities irrigation unit
Control the water flow and irrigation system pressure
Plan, apply and control fertigation and chlorination activities
Determine daily water demand per cluster
Supervise and control the drainage system
Control budget of irrigation operation unit
BEng/BSc in Irrigation/Hydraulic Engineering and 3 years relevant experience
MSc or Specialist postgraduate qualifications will be viewed favorably.
2. Water Engineer
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Compute flow of dam and pump station to match the irrigation demand,
Operate and control diversion weir, dams, deep wells reservoirs pump station and flow measuring stations
manage the budget for the bulk water supply unit
Monitor irrigation and domestic water quality
Ensure that the organization polices, rules and procedures on bulk water supply aspects are properly and timely implemented.
Establishes engineering standards for bulk water supply
Facilitate the maintenance of bulk water systems.
Prepare and estimate quantities of materials.
Qualifications and Experience
BEng/BSc Water Engineering/Hydraulic and over 3 years relevant experience
MSc or Specialist postgraduate qualifications will be viewed favorably.
Key Skills
Must have good report writing skills.
Computer simulation/use of computer models will be helpful ( IT skills)
Able to using a variety of specialist computer applications/simulation software
Must be efficient in completion of the assigned tasks on time on the office/sits
Excellent analytical skills
Team working, negotiating, supervisory and leadership skills combined with the ability to delegate
Problem solving skills
Good time management
Able to demonstrate a genuine knowledge and interest of the water/ irrigation industry and environmental issues
ability to think methodically, to design, plan and manage projects
ability to maintain an overview of entire projects while continuing to attend to detailed technicalities
keeping up-to-date with changes in regulatory legislation, guidelines etc
excellent verbal and written communication skills
