Duma Works is recruiting a Business Development Fellow for one of our clients.
Position Title: Business Development Fellow
Status: Full-Time, Regular
Location: Kenya
Company Description: A fast-growing social enterprise in Uganda that manufactures and sells reusable (washable) cloth sanitary pads
Job Summary: Exceptional Business Development Fellow who will lead the company’s expansion into Kenya by conducting a market assessment and driving demand creation for the product.
The position is a 1-year fellowship with the potential for performance-based extension.
The ideal candidate is a determined, self-motivated individual who is keen to gain experience in the emerging social enterprise sector.
- Create new opportunities for the sales of pads, Menstrual Kits in Kenya and East Africa by identifying new partnerships with NGOs, UN Agencies, businesses and government bodies
- Maintain and develop relationships with existing customer and partner base in Kenya
- Create sales & marketing materials for both web-based and direct marketing to customers
- Keep an up-to-date database of all clients on Sales force
- Assist customers with field visits to help inform on use and care of the product to product recipients
- Attend conferences and trade shows to promote the product and liaise with customers
- Monitor competition by gathering current marketplace information on new products in East Africa
Skills & Experience
Core Skills
- Three (3) years minimum work experience, ideally in business development, sales, marketing, entrepreneurship, customer service, or a similar field
- Proven ability to strategize, organize, and deliver a customized, targeted sales pitch to a broad spectrum of potential customers, partners and stakeholders
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to interact professionally and with sensitivity amongst culturally diverse staff and customers
- Understanding of the NGO and relief sector in East Africa
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and pro-actively, with excellent time management
- Mastery of English with excellent command of the language, both written and oral
- Complete familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Power-point
- Knowledge of Sales force is a bonus

- Flexibility with shifting priorities and competing demands in a fast-paced, challenging work environment
- Willingness to work flexible hours (including periodic evenings and weekends) and to travel within Kenya for work (approx. 10%)
- Commitment to the company’s mission and objectives, with a keen sensitivity to empower and enable value-conscious consumers through social enterprise
Compensation: The company is offering a competitive compensation package and a 1-year-fellowship contract, with potential for performance-based extension.
