About Carolina for Kibera (CFK)


Founded in 2001, Carolina for Kibera (CFK) exists to offer motivated individuals in the Kibera slum tools and opportunities to become healthy, educated, and self-sufficient. With a focus on youth, CFK’s first program, a community-based sports program, promotes ethnic, gender and religious cooperation in Kibera. CFK has since expanded to serve the community in a holistic manner through a network of programs in the areas of health, social and economic development– offering low-cost high-quality medical care, sexual health education, entrepreneurship training, and adolescent girls’ empowerment, among other initiatives. The Daughters United Program is an internationally recognized adolescent girls empowerment program targeting girls in Kibera between the ages of 10-22 and focuses on providing them with safe spaces in which they are able to learn about reproductive health, adolescence, and financial education, as well as develop friendships and skills in communication, negotiation, and leadership.


About the Position


We are looking for a dynamic, experienced Program Officer for Daughters United to lead program development and implementation withadolescentgirls in Kibera. The Program Officer will be responsible for both the current operations and the future development of the program and it’s funding. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of integrity, resourcefulness, and compassion and be comfortable in interacting with youth and families in Kibera daily. This is a full-time position based in the Kibera slum of Nairobi, Kenya.


Main Responsibilities


· Provide technical direction to the development and direct implementation of all project activities of the program.


· Design practical, effective activities that uplift the status of adolescent girls.


· Prepare reports and analysis as required, including monthly status reports, budget reviews, program evaluations, annual reports, etc.


· Prepare periodic work-plans and ensure the implementation of all approved project activities in line with the wider organizational strategy.


· Develop new approaches and initiatives to empower and improve the lives of adolescent girls.


· Undertake regular field assessment of target groups and their needs.


· Supervise the day to day activities of all coordinators and volunteers under the program


· Supervise the identification and recruitment coordinators and volunteers for program activities.


· Ensure the strict observance and maintenance of CFK standards in implementation of the Program ensuring all components are run ethically and respectful to the rights of the beneficiary population.


· Take responsibility for financial management of the project, including reporting, budget management, and pursuing new funding opportunities.


· Conduct constant monitoring as well as periodic reviews and take action for progressive improvement of program performance.


· Develop strategic partnerships with relevant governmental, non-governmental and private sector agencies for the support and sustainability of program activities.


· Act as the primary contact of CFK with policy and implementing partners under the program


· Any other duties that you may be assigned from time to time.


Qualifications


· A Degree in social sciences, gender studies, development studies or related discipline from a reputable institution.


· At least 3 years work experience working with adolescent girls in a resource-constrained setting.


· Conversant with Children’s Rights Policy


· Significant experience in designing and managing grant programs aimed at improving the health, economic and educational status of the un-served and underserved.


· Experience in program development, evaluation and assessment.


· Knowledge and familiarity with the Kibera community and environment will be an added advantage.


Competencies


· Thorough understanding of the issues surrounding adolescent health, education and economic empowerment with regard to girls and young women.


· Experience in working as part of a multidisciplinary and culturally diverse team. The ability to work in a complex environment requiring significant collaboration is essential.


· Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to think and act strategically in the design and execution of programs.


· Demonstrated effectiveness in written and oral communication with a good ability to communicate complex issues to a variety of audiences.


· Self-starter with a diligent and professional work ethic able to independently handle multiple priorities and deadlines.


· Expertise in Microsoft office software – specifically Word, Power Point and Excel;


· Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and Kiswahili;


· Excellent listening, typing and report writing skills. Good organizational skills including accuracy, consistency, attention to detail, tenacity and the ability to work under pressure.
