Founded in 2001, Carolina for Kibera (CFK) exists to offer motivated individuals in the Kibera slum tools and opportunities to become healthy, educated, and self-sufficient. With a focus on youth, CFK’s first program, a community-based sports program, promotes ethnic, gender and religious cooperation in Kibera. CFK has since expanded to serve the community in a holistic manner through a network of programs in the areas of health, social and economic development– offering low-cost high-quality medical care, sexual health education, entrepreneurship training, and adolescent girls’ empowerment, among other initiatives. About the Position


We are looking for a compassionate, experienced Social Worker to work with adolescents and their families in Kibera. The Social Worker will work across several programs to assess and respond to the needs of adolescents and offer guidance to the program officers with whom they work. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of integrity and compassion and be comfortable in interacting with youth and families in Kibera daily. This is a full-time position based in the Kibera slum of Nairobi, Kenya.


Main Responsibilities


· Prepare and work with individual members, families and guardians to assess their needs and circumstances by:


o Conducting home/school visits


o Performing follow up visits to address upcoming needs/issues as home and school where necessary.


· Submit monthly and quarterly reports of the home visits/school visits.


· Document member’s profiles/background information.


· Write case profiles and update the database records of individual members.


· Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports for any action to be undertaken by the program.


· Support the successful implementation of youth-focused programming and create awareness raising activities, including the provision of information on available health services and facilitating referrals through relevant institutions and partnering organizations.


· Encourage parent/caregiver partnerships in participating in the wellbeing of adolescents.


· Participate in organizing trainings and social events for the program.


· Liaising with, and making referrals to, other service providers/agencies within Kibera and Langata.


· Monitor and evaluate the progress of members’ at household and community level


· Manage and be accountable, with minimal supervision of all the responsibilities and resources that come with duties of this position.


· Attend major activities planned by CFK.


· Mentor young pupils within the programs.


· Attend parents, pupils meeting, workshops and seminars organized by CFK where necessary.


· Any other duties that you may be called upon to assist on when necessary.


Qualifications


· A Degree in Social Work/Community Development/Counseling Psychology from a reputable institution.


· Conversant with Children’s Rights Policy


· At least 3 years work experience as a social worker or in implementation of community development work.


· Expertise in Microsoft office software – specifically Word, Power Point and Excel;


· Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and Kiswahili;


· Excellent listening, typing and report writing skills.


· Experience in working in informal settlement.


· Good organizational skills including accuracy, consistency, attention to detail, tenacity and the ability to work under pressure
