Financial Analyst

1 Position
Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Financial Analysis, and the selected candidate will be responsible for;
- Evaluating financial projects involving analysis and interpretation of periodical financial statements of listed companies, market intermediaries and new applications to issue securities or applications for new licenses.
- Assessing level of compliance of financial reports and regulatory disclosures with Capital Markets Rules and Regulations, in order to safeguard and protect investor interests and support internal customers in market supervision
- Conducting regular and ad-hoc analysis of periodical financial statements for market intermediaries and listed companies to ensure compliance with capital markets rules and regulations.
- Reviewing applications for approval and licensing of market intermediaries, and assess business plans for consistency and viability
- Reviewing prospectuses and information memoranda for potential or actual material accounting or financial reporting deficiencies to ensure investors are provided with accurate information on which to base their investment decisions, and to support internal customers in compliance, surveillance risk analysis and research
- Conducting analysis of financial statements submitted in support of applications by listed companies such as approval of bonus, rights of IPO issues including capital markets instruments, corporate bonds, commercial papers, and complex asset backed securities including financial projections to ensure compliance with capital markets rules and regulations.
- Reviewing analysis of financial data and method used by issuers of securities to arrive at valuations for offers to the public in order to determine their objectiveness.
- Analysing financial statements to ensure that financial reporting of licensees and listed companies is in line with the requirements of IFRS.
- Maintaining and updating databases relating to financial data, including submission of accounts, publication of financial statements, summaries of financial analysis, etc.
- Comparing financial information submitted to the Authority by licensees and listed companies with the published financial statements and highlight any inconsistencies.
- Conducting inspections and investigations and giving recommendations for the registration and licensing of companies to operate in the country’s securities market.
- Monitoring changes in IFRS and note if the same is being adopted by licensees and listed companies.
- Reviewing indicators and incidents of financial fraud, fraudulent market operations like insider trading and money laundering as well as failures to meet regulatory obligations and recommend administrative and legal sanctions in line with CMA requirements.
- Undertaking any other responsibilities as and when assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Qualification:
- An upper second Bachelor’s Degree in a Business field, Science or any other relevant area
- CPA(K), CFA or equivalent will be preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of two (2) years relevant work experience in a reputable organisation.

- Knowledge of financial and accounting procedures in relation to capital markets operations as well as financial sector operations

- Good presentation and communication skills including the ability to write reports
- Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook express including financial and statistical packages
