Team work is one of the essential skills that most Kenyan employers look for in job candidates. How would you feel in a situation where the team work is causing more
harm than good?
“I work in a busy Manufacturing firm an Office Administrator for the past two years. My co-worker is the administration manager with whom we normally delegate duties to one another.
The office is very busy and demanding as it needs constantly attending to visitors, answering phone calls and handling of other administration duties.
Why My Co Worker Is Inconveniencing My Work
For the last three months, she has been showing up to work late claiming that she might have overslept. If she is supposed to be in the office by 8, she would report at 10 with no apology.
I feel like her absence from work is inconveniencing me a lot because I have to take up her responsibilities. This leaves me overwhelmed as I am barely left with enough time to go for lunch break and attend to other responsibilities.
She rarely apologizes and acts as if nothing has happened and this is starting to affect my productivity. I have tried talking to her on the matter and she promised to change which is contrary to what she is doing now.
Is there a professional way to handle this concern? Should I involve my boss in it? Please advise” writes Alice Mtindi in an email.
What advice would you give Alice?
