Job Title: Production Manager – Wood Work

Industry: Interior design

Location: Nairobi

Salary: 100K – 150K gross

Our client is recently set up international company in Kenya that specializes in supply of building materials and contracting of interior design work for high end residential and commercial projects. 

They have subsidiaries in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Kenya is the 1st branch in Africa. 

They produce the kitchen fittings locally and as such they seek to hire a production manager who will be responsible for monitoring the day-to-day profitability, safety, quality, maintenance and efficiency of an hourly work force, as well as procurement of materials and finished goods.

Key Responsibilities

Assume complete responsibility for the production and its operation.

Understand and positively impact key factory control factors of safety, quality, standard operating procedures, employee relations, training and continuous improvement.

Understand, monitor and maintain product quality and quantity levels by coordinating and facilitating efficient color changes and production line clearances.

Monitor, investigate and implement safety, quality, productivity and cost control improvement activities.

Responsible for the scheduling of all production employees and coordinating all requests for vacation, leave and other time off.

Perform routine inspections, tests and evaluations of finished product

Review production sheets and verify that production floor is set up to handle the requirements of the shift.

Perform daily observations and initiate corrective measures to insure that the safety of all plant personnel and visitors is not compromised.

Apply basic quality tools i.e. Process capability, Design of Experiments, etc.

Assist in the maintenance Quality Systems and problem solving efforts on high impact quality issues.

Perform facility safety and quality audits to insure adherence to all quality standards, housekeeping, and record keeping

Prepare the final production report at the end of the shift and enter all data into the computer.  

Understand, use and train employees on SOP’s.

Investigate manufacturing/production issues for root cause analysis.

Perform acceptance sampling and/or determine if situation needs a review board or not in making decisions.

Monitor manufacturing industry trends for company and suggest CAPEX plans and effectively recommend install troubleshoot new equipment procurement and installation

Skills and Qualifications Desired

Bachelors degree in Production /Technology

5 years experience in a similar position (wood production processes)

Must have the ability to operate in a lean manufacturing environment utilizing continuous improvement tools.

Knowledge of cabinet manufacturing processes and physical characteristics of wood and the ability to establish acceptable color ranges

Knowledge of solid wood and veneer natural and manufacturing defects and characteristics

Knowledge of the quality tools used to monitor the process and make improvements

Proficient with computer applications including Microsoft excel and word

in a windows environment (CAD preferred)
