Job Title: Concrete Pump Operator

Direct Reports: Concrete Pump Attendants
Job Purpose: Ensure efficiency and reliability of the pumps by operating them in line with their use/handling procedures as detailed by the pump manufacturer.
Major Accountabilities and Activities
- Health and safety management on all related tasks on the pump and on site.
- Efficiently Operate company and/or hired pump in line with OEM guidelines to discharge concrete as required.
- Report all faults of the pump to the pump maintenance team as soon as they are detected.
- Set up pump and pipes with the help of pump assistants to required points at the site, in readiness for pumping concrete.
- Oversee cleaning of the pump after use to prevent caking of concrete in the pump and its related accessories. Ensure their safekeeping at all times.
- Oversee minor servicing, oiling and greasing.
- Coordinate all pumping activities at the site for safe and orderly discharge of concrete.
- Act as company representative and site manager on all pumping sites from commencement to completion of task i.e. contractors Vs company property.
- Protect the company from environmental exposures during cleaning of concrete on site etc.
- Protect company from any loses that may occur from site administration, by pre-inspecting site, and recommending necessary improvements.
- Generate and keep records that will guide in pump performance vs target and keep monitoring the same for decision making purposes.
- Number of stoppages for (operation related) incident (NSFI) and mean time between pump accessory failures.
- Using, cleaning and storing the pump and its related accessories in the prescribed manner.
- Proper record keeping and analysis of performance over a periods of time and propose improvements therein.
Building Capacity:
- Training of new pump operators or attendants on full pumping operations monitoring their progress.
Skills Required
Technical Competencies
- Diploma in Mechanical (construction plant option) or Hydraulics.
- Three to five years experience in a concrete manufacturing & pumping set-up.
- Experienced in trouble-shooting, analysis and decision making.
- Experience in heavy commercial driving.
- Electronics knowledge will be an added advantage.
- Management Skills
- Teamwork skills.
- Good supervisory skills.
- Training/learning cascading skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and with conflicting priorities.
