Job Purpose
The overall purpose of this job is to provide support and facilitation by receiving prescription, analysing and dispensing medication to patients in line with the established protocols.

Key duties and responsibilities


  • Assist in filling, processing, and dispensing medications to patients in safety standards and to ensure quality care for patients;

  • Assist in maintaining the drug inventory through inventory control practices;

  • Initiate procurement process for medications;

  • Keep track and control measures for drugs – ensure there is a prescription accompanying all the drugs request;

  • Participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME) to stay informed;

  • Collaborate with the regulatory body (Pharmacy and Poison’s Board) – Pharmaco- vigilance for information on adverse effects/reactions to prescription drugs;

  • Monthly reporting – sales, expenses, breakages, expiries;

  • Ensure proper stock management, including management of expired drugs and supplies, reorder levels, obsolete items, stock movement, stock outs and returns; and

  • Any other responsibilities that may be assigned to the jobholder by the supervisor from time to time.

  • Internal Relationships: Finance, Procurement, Stores, Nursing, Clinical, Security

  • External Relationships: Patients, other hospitals, suppliers

 Knowledge, experience and qualifications required


  • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.

  • Must be registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya and hold a valid practicing license.

  • Membership to Kenya Pharmaceutical Association is an added advantage

  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience preferably in a hospital environment
