The Save the Children Fund, commonly known as Save the Children, was established in the United Kingdom in 1919 to improve the lives of children through better education, health care, and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in natural disasters, war, and other conflicts. After passing a century, which it celebrated in 2019, it is now a global movement made up of 29 national member organizations which work in 120 countries.
Role Purpose
We are looking for suitable candidates to serve as Data Enumerators/ Research Assistants for its ongoing projects in Samburu County. The enumerators/research assistants will be called upon on a need basis to undertake various research, evaluation studies and other related activities. Save the Children occasionally undertakes a number of evaluations, researches and related short term activities. The research Assistants/enumerators will be expected to support with both quantitative and qualitative data collection, data entry, data cleaning, analysis exercise and related activities. The successful candidates will be retained in our database for a period of one-year renewable subject to performance, commitment to and upholding of Save the Children core values and policies.
Key Areas of Accountability:
- Working with communities where the studies will be implemented to mobilize community members targeted during the interviews using appropriate channels.
- Conducting both qualitative and quantitative interviews (FGDs, KIIs, In-depth interviews and household assessments) for various studies and assessment.
- Collating data from all the tools and working with supervisors to ensure that data collected is of high quality
- Working with (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning) MEAL team to troubleshoot data collection tools
- Submitting all data through the provided platforms, that include KOBO and CommCare and other survey forms as guided by the supervisor.
- Support in Office Clerical work at the support departments.
- Submitting daily field reports on progress to the supervisor during catch up meetings.
- Reporting any child protection/ safeguarding issue encountered during the assessment/study.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- A minimum qualification of a C grade in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)
- Additional Certification; Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree will be an added advantage.
- Relevant previous research experience will also an added advantage.
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili both written and oral. Understanding of local language will be added advantage.
- Experience in the collection, data entry and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data (focus group discussions, in-depth interviews and key informant interviews)
- Have good note taking and facilitation skills for qualitative studies.
- Computer literacy, particularly in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Excellent communication and interpersonal and report writing skills.
- Familiarity with electronic data collection tools (ODK, KOBO, ONA, Survey CTO) will be an added advantage
- Available for the data collection period approximately, 1 month and on need basis when called upon.
- Have the ability to learn quickly and to articulate issues in a concise manner.
- Willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive to community values, beliefs and practice.
- Team player and strong self-starter, able to take initiative and work well under minimum supervision.
- Previous experience in Survey is highly desirable
- Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s Vision, values and policies.
- Demonstrates Save the Children’s core values of accountability, collaboration, integrity, ambition, and creativity.
- Fluency in English, both verbal and written, required
- Excellent command of the local languages spoken in Samburu
