Coping With a Job You Hate

How To Cope With A Job You Hate

There are several reasons that can cause dissatisfaction in the workplace. Some people start hating their jobs when the tasks become too demanding, there is a conflict in the office, lack of proper training, poor compensation, unsafe working environment, lack of progression, burn out, poor job flexibility, bad corporate culture.

Having a bad experience at the workplace can affect your performance and how you relate to people. Work does not have to feel like a chore or a burden, it should be something you love doing and less of a stressful situation. Life is short, don’t stay in a job that constantly makes you unhappy and depressed.

If you hate your job, below are 3 tips to help you

1. Self Assessment

Before you decide to quit on your job, do a self assessment to determine what really makes you hate the job. Try and figure out the reasons that make you frustrated.

Write down the pros and cons of your job. Determine if there are ways in which the situation can change or would it be better if you moved on.

If you have a problem with your schedule or job flexibility, talk to your supervisor about it. He/She might come up with possible ways to improve your situation.
If your problem is with the specific role you are assigned, talk to your boss about changing roles within the company, or adjusting your current responsibilities to cater for your needs.

It is best not to quit before you secure another one. However, if you feel the situation cannot get better, make sure you have enough funds to take you through the months you’ll be unemployed.

Job searching takes time and it’s best to be prepared.

2. Be Professional

Being dissatisfied at work does not mean you become careless or lose your focus. Don’t treat your clients poorly because you are miserable. Keep doing your job well and maintain respect towards your boss and co-workers. This way, you can be able to get a great recommendation even when you quit. No matter how much you hate your job, don’t go burning bridges on the way.

3. Change your attitude

One bad experience at work can make you hate your entire job. If that is the case, then learn how to get over things quickly. Don’t take negative comments, or situations personally.

Remind yourself that the situation is not permanent, make a point of having a good day at work. Have a positive attitude and concentrate what makes you appreciate your job, even if it’s just one reason.

However, if you don’t have any reason that can help you create a positive attitude, then its time you consider moving on.
