Communication/PR Job Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan
Lead the generation of online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action. Decide who, where, and when to disseminate
Put communications vehicles in place to create momentum and awareness as well as to test the effectiveness of communications activities
Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, website
Track and measure the level of engagement within the network over time
Planning, developing and implementing PR strategies
Liaising with and answering enquiries from media, individuals and other organisations, often via telephone and email
Researching, writing and distributing press releases to targeted media
Collating and analysing media coverage
Writing and editing in-house magazines, case studies, speeches, articles and annual reports
Preparing and supervising the production of publicity brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia programmes
Managing the PR aspect of a potential crisis situation.
Desired Competencies
Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies
Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to “manage by influence”
High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
Requirements for Communications & PR Jobs in Kenya
5+ years of relevant experience working in media ,public relations or telecoms
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or related field preferred.
Must have a strong editorial eye, be media-savvy, and love to pitch
Excellent writing skills
Familiarity with social media and its role in public relations
An ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment
Familiarity with technology, policy, parenting and education press and reporters a plus!
