Credit Control Manager Job Description

The primary function of a Credit Controller is coordinating the debts of existing creditors and deciding whether to allow credit to a debtor – ultimately managing all money owed to the business.

Basic Function:

The credit Control Manager Position is accountable for the entire credit granting process, including the consistent application of a credit policy, periodic credit reviews of existing customers, and the assessment of the credit worthiness of potential customers, with the goal of optimizing the mix of company sales and bad debt losses.

It is also the responsibility of a Credit Controller to manage debt recovery, which if a client has paid late or missed payments could involve stopping the supply of goods and services or undertaking legal action, at worst dealing with bankrupt businesses to negotiate recovery of funds.

Principal Accountabilities:

Management

Maintain a department organizational structure sufficient to meet all goals and objectives

Properly motivate the credit and collections staff

Measure department performance with appropriate metrics

Provide for ongoing training of the credit staff

Manage relations with collection agencies

Manage relations with credit insurance providers

Manage relations with the sales department

Credit Operations:

Maintain the corporate credit policy

Recommend changes in the credit policy to senior management

Create a credit scoring model and also be able to Checking customer’s credit ratings with banks

Manage customer credit files

Monitor the credit granting and updating process

Personally investigate the largest customer credit applications

Personally visit the largest customers to establish relations

Monitor periodic credit reviews

Setting up the terms and conditions of sales invoicing

Timely and effective collection of all debts and customers payments

Negotiating re-payment plans

Maintaining contact with clients to ensure invoices are clear for payment

Resolving queries both internally and externally around outstanding invoices

Posting and allocating daily receipts to accounting systems

Providing accounts information to internal departments especially the sales department

Desired Qualifications:

3+ years of credit experience.

Bachelor’s degree in business and experience with credit scoring systems preferred.

Have a thorough knowledge of credit-related laws.

Have considerable experience with customer negotiations.

Ability to establish and maintain good client relationships, both internally and externally at all levels

Ability to reconcile complex accounts and have excellent attention to detail

Competence in Microsoft Office products, XL and accounting software programmes

Calm, confident manner to handle potentially uncomfortable conversations

Working Knowledge of SAP

Knowledge of management and costing accounting will be desirable
