When looking for a suitable candidate for an open position, the employer will always focus his/ her attention on the applicants achievements and experiences.

Often times, these are the indicators of an applicant’s ability to undertake the tasks related to the position and deliver.

How To Summarize Your Work Experience in a CV

1.Make it short and precise:

When listing your experience, ensure it is precise. This section should not be wordy and to avoid this, it is best to numerate them or use bullet points to enlist.

2. List only key responsibilities:

Ensure the responsibilities you list here are the main highlights and are related to the position you are currently applying for.

3. Emphasize on your achievements:

Achievements serve to show the employer that an applicant not only undertook the roles and responsibilities associated with the position but also excelled in them. This should be listed just below the corresponding experience.

For example:

Date: February 2010 – June 2014
Position: Finance Officer

Duties:

1. Assist with the preparation of the budget
2. Implement financial policies and procedures

Achievements:

“I effectively led a team in achieving my branch’s new product sales target for four consecutive quarters and significantly reduced customer waiting times by 20% over a course of six months.”

Keep in mind that this is the section that sells you to your potential employer, therefore it should be well drawn and the highlights as clear as possible.
