Program Description: The Research Care and Training Program (RCTP) is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of Washington (UW).
It is a dynamic comprehensive HIV prevention, research, care and treatment program in Kenya. It is a rapidly expanding program.
Due to its continued growth, the program is seeking a motivated, pro-active individual to fill the following vacancy in the Property Rights Study funded by the UCSF Center for AIDS Research.
This is a study dealing with the impact of grassroots property rights interventions on women’s HIV/AIDS risk in Kakamega and Kendu bay.
Position: Research Assistants (two positions) Vacancy No. FN2-29- 09
Study Location: Kakamega and Kendu bay.
Key Requirements:
* Diploma in Community Health and Development or relevant field from a recognized institution required. Bachelors degree qualifications preferred.
* Experience in research set up required.
* Must be fluent in Dholuo (Southern Nyanza dialect) or Luhya (Isukha and Idakho) languages.
* Must have ability to follow instructions and procedures properly.
* Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to work in a team is essential.
Job Summary: The incumbent will be answerable to the Study Coordinator and will be responsible for recruiting study participants, data collection by conducting research interviews as well as write reports of the study during the period they are in the study. The contract period for employment will be 4-5 months, starting January 2011 and ending May 2011.
Responsibilities include:
1. Recruitment of study participants (40 interviewees to be recruited from each site, Kakamega and Kendu Bay)
2. Carry out and record in-depth interviews in local language for each research site
3. Participation in staff training (human subjects review, in-depth interview skills, and interview skills building)
4. Perform other duties as may be assigned by management
