Program Description: The Research Care and Training Program (RCTP) is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of Washington (UW). It is a dynamic comprehensive HIV prevention, research, care and treatment program in Kenya. It is a rapidly expanding program. The program is seeking motivated, pro-active individuals to fill the following vacancies in the Partners Demonstration Study. This is an open-label, pilot demonstration and evaluation project of antiretroviral-based HIV-1 prevention among high-risk discordant couples in heterosexual relationships, based at Lumumba Health Centre - Kisumu.


 Location: Kisumu, Lumumba Health Centre
 Minimum: Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery with current registration with Clinical Officers Council of Kenya.Training in Adult ART managementCounseling training is desirable such as VCT and CHCTResearch experience will be an added advantageAt least one year of experience preferably in a clinical research set up or Comprehensive Care Centre (CCC).

The KEMRI - Wellcome Trust Research Programme is an internationally renowned health research programme that is committed to research capacity development in the East African Region. Research internships provide an opportunity for recent graduates to gain experience in a dynamic research environment by working with senior scientific staff in on-going research activities. The internship gives young graduates an opportunity to decide if they would like to take up research as a career. Several internships commencing in January 2013 are available at our Nairobi and Kilifi sites.

We seek a molecular virologist of outstanding ability to join a dynamic team of researchers working on the epidemiology, evolution and control of respiratory and enteric viruses, including respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) for which the group is internationally recognised. The successful candidate will support studies relating to molecular and immuno-epidemiology, transmission dynamics, genetic; antigenic diversity, and evolution of a range of viruses. We require post-doctoral level support in relevant molecular biological techniques such as quantitative real time PCR, sequencing and phylogenetics, protein and peptide synthesis and expression. We are looking for an individual with the capacity to support on-going studies and, importantly, aptitude to develop independent lines of enquiry. Priority will be given to candidates from Kenya or the East Africa Region. This is a two year contract in the first instance.

Due to an increase in number of research projects within the KEMRI / UW Study Project and in order to carry out research more efficiently, the study seeks to recruit dynamic, innovative and experienced person to fill the following position:

1. Study Clinical Officer

To be based at KEMRI/UW Homabay Study Site

The Study Clinical Officer will participate in HIV related research and manage study participants. S/he will give palliative, curative and preventive care as may be needed.

S/he will be expected to observe good clinical practice in carrying out duties and work as a team with other staffs.

S/he will be reporting to the Site Coordinator or the Medical Coordinator and should be ready to carry out other duties as delegated by the Site Coordinator.

Responsibilities

As Study Clinical Officer, work with Medical Coordinator to ensure standards and consistency between sites amongst other Site CO.

As Site CO, responsibilities are local and include the following:
Provide medical care for study participantsManagement of incidental illnesses and any side effects.Perform baseline and follow up physical examinationsEnsure patients enrolled meet all inclusion criteriaExclude patients with meeting exclusion criteriaEnsure completed questionnaires are delivered to Data Team within 24 hoursPresent weekly and monthly reports of clinic activitiesAt weekly study meetings, the study CO will present a detailed report of clinical findings. Include all patients enrolled and all excluded patients. Research internships provide an opportunity for recent graduates to gain experience in a dynamic research environment by working with senior scientific staff in on-going research activities.

As part of the international mission of the University of Washington to transfer technology and build capacity, a rotational fixed duration work/study (internship) position has been established in the research study and recruitment is currently underway.

Program Description: The Research Care and Training Program (RCTP) is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of Washington (UW).

It is a dynamic comprehensive HIV prevention, research, care and treatment program in Kenya. It is a rapidly expanding program.

Due to its continued growth, the program is seeking a motivated, pro-active individual to fill the following vacancy in the Property Rights Study funded by the UCSF Center for AIDS Research.

This is a study dealing with the impact of grassroots property rights interventions on women’s HIV/AIDS risk in Kakamega and Kendu bay.

Position: Research Assistants (two positions) Vacancy No. FN2-29- 09

Study Location: Kakamega and Kendu bay.

Key Requirements:
* Diploma in Community Health and Development or relevant field from a recognized institution required. Bachelors degree qualifications preferred.
* Experience in research set up required.
* Must be fluent in Dholuo (Southern Nyanza dialect) or Luhya (Isukha and Idakho) languages.

Position: Family Planning Nurse (One position) Vacancy No. FN-25-10

Location: Suba District
Job Summary: The Nursing Officer will be involved in Family Planning (FP) training and clinical mentorship of HIV care and treatment providers at FACES-supported patient support centers in the above districts. They will provide FP/RH training and mentoring to nurses, clinical officers, and other clinic staff within their assigned district. The position is approximately 30% clinical and 70% capacity and systems building. This is not a research position.

Key Requirements:

Education:
* Minimum – Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN/KRN).
* NASCOP-approved training in FP preferably as a TOT, couple counseling, and management of HIV and STIs will be a plus.
* A background in public health is desirable, such as previous education and/or experience working or training in community and public health.

Prior Work Experience:

* Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be a self-starter with strong diplomatic, training and leadership qualities.
* Ability to monitor, gather and evaluate information of broad scope and complexity in the areas of RH, FP and HIV and use this to develop systems in their assigned district.
* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in both English and Kiswahili. Knowledge of Dholuo is an added advantage.
* Ability to work in a clinically busy, resource-challenged, and demanding environment and must be able to travel extensively.
* Competency in using various computer software applications including Microsoft Office programs and familiarity with web-based programs required.
