Duma Works is recruiting a Boarding Nurse for one of our clients; a leading international school in Nairobi offering English curriculum and the very best education to students from all backgrounds, cultures and educational levels.
Job Purpose: To be responsible for the health, hygiene and wellbeing of boarding students and house staff in compliance with regulations and rulings of the Ministry of Health.
Job Scope: All Health requirements of students and staff, inclusive of preparing all staff on preventative hygiene procedures; administering of firstaid; record keeping; and informative instruction where required.
Internal and External Interactions
Internal: Students and employees of the school.
External: School parents, third party vendors and Ministry of Health officials.
Key Responsibilities
- To act in loco parentis to students in the Boarding House
- To embrace and encourage the ethos and standards of excellence as defined in the the school’s Core Values.
- To ensure that students and parents adhere to, and are well informed of immunization programs as per Ministry of Health guidelines.
- To monitor the maintenance of a minimum level of cleanliness and hygiene within the house, particularly in areas such as the bedrooms, washrooms and common areas.
- To be available to students and staff to address their immediate medical needs, providing a source of medical advice.
- To maintain comprehensive medical records of all boarding students as regulated by the Ministry of Health.
- To establish procedures for providing first aid in cases of accidents or illness on the school campus or during school functions.
- To refer accidents or illness appropriately to the school doctor or hospitals, and inform parents, boarding manager and the school Principal.
- To keep up to date with current medical practices and regulations, as prescribed by Governmental authorities.
- To ensure the shool’s policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
- To initiate effort and energy beyond the typical work day, where the tasks require additional commitment.
- To attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
- To perform other duties as requested by direct & dotted reporting line managers / supervisors.
Person Specification
Qualifications / Knowledge
- Recognized and approved BSc Nursing or 3 year General Nursing Certificate, preferably with a Ministry of Health license.
- Current, up-to-date knowledge of worldwide medical and healthcare practices.
Skills
- Excellent English language skills including reading, writing, speaking and listening.
- Positive interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to remain calm in cases of emergency and cope with a degree of pressure at peak times.
- A logical and relaxed individual able to interact with a variety of people from different backgrounds and cultures.
Experience:
- A minimum of 1 years’ experience in a similar position.
Preferred:
- A female registered nurse
- Age: 30-35 years
