County Sales Assistant Job in Vihiga, Kenya




Job Title: County Sales Assistant
 



Location: Vihiga 



Reporting to: County Sales Manager The Job
 



This position will have a critical role in the development and delivery of Heya’s business plan by driving sales, margins and business profitability; fuelling the growth of our brand in Vihiga County. 



The Sales Assistant is responsible for sales volume generation, company brand awareness and customer relationship building among target groups and market. 



The candidate must be a demonstrated high achiever, have the ability and interpersonal skills to drive sales and influence people.

Heya! a brand owned by NewLight Africa is a product neutral distributor of a wide range of socially and environmentally important products including solar lanterns, solar home systems, fuel efficient cook stoves, biomass briquettes, purified water etc.




Heya! addresses the biggest challenge in getting these products to the people who need them most in sub Saharan Africa.
 



Duties and Responsibilities



 
A. Sales Growth – Time allocation 90%


  • Together with the Sales Manager, build the sales business model and drive the expansion of Heya! within the county.

  • Develop and implement the sales and marketing plan, building awareness and driving sales and ensure consistent branding of agents.

  • Build partner relationships with groups, MFIs, major NGOs and local government vital for the support and expansion of Heya!

  • Present and sell company products and services to current and potential customers.

  • Follow up on new leads and referrals resulting from field activity and identify sales prospects and contact these and other accounts as assigned.

  • Prepare presentations, proposals and sales contracts.

  • Establish and maintain current client and potential client relationships.

  • Identify and resolve client concerns.

  • Communicate new product requirements, information, or feedback gathered through field activity to appropriate company staff.

  • Develop and implement special sales activities to reduce stock.

  • Other duties as assigned.


B. Reporting – Time allocation 10%


  • Prepare a variety of status reports, including activity, closings, follow-up, and adherence to goals.

  • Liaise with finance and administration teams to ensure customer accounts are paid on time and credit limits are well managed.


Key Competencies




Skills/Experience

Essential



  • 2-3 years sales and account management experience

  • Good business sense and professional manner

  • The ability to develop in-depth knowledge about products and markets – The ability to work well on your own and also as part of a team

  • Excellent time-management and organisation skills

  • Computer literacy

  • Driving License

  • Diploma or Degree in Sales and Marketing


Desirable


  • Experience across distribution channels with a track record of results scaling up a business

  • Confidence, motivation and determination

  • Good Communication and people skills

  • Experience in the solar sector (preferable)

  • Experience working with people in remote sites/at a distance

  • Willingness to work on a flexible schedule


Personal Qualities


  • Natural salesperson, able to build excitement about solar energy

  • Self-starter with capacity to work under minimum supervision & support and the ability to manage multiple priorities and workload

  • Strong team work skills

  • Willingness and flexibility to spend time in rural Kenya

  • Confident communicator, able to negotiate mutually beneficial partnerships with partners, businesses and communities

  • Good work ethic and integrity.

  • Good computer skills
