Harvesting Headman Job in Kwale County, Kenya

Position: Harvesting Headman
 


Duty Station: Kwale County   
 


A company in Kwale is seeking a highly qualified and suitable candidate to engage in a six months contract for the aforementioned position.

Job Summary: Harvesting Headman is responsible for directing, coordinating, and controlling the timely harvesting of mature cane.


 


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directing, coordinating, managing, monitoring and controlling the cutting of mature cane timely;

  • Checking and reporting on the availability of required facilities such as tools, protective devices, water, and other materials;

  • Supervising the proper functioning of chopper harvesters and trucks/tractors, and timely reporting problems for remedial action.

  • Checking and approving pay rolls, pay sheet, and payment requests.

  • Controlling the attendance of the supervisors and field clerks under his/her supervision.

  • Receiving information and instruction from superior about next day cane harvesting program.

  • Assigning tasks among each supervisor based on the number of cane cutters they manage.

  • Directing,  advising and assisting supervisors in handling assigned tasks

  • Checking the quality and volume of work performed by harvesting crew under each supervisor and supervisors.

  • Inspecting chopper harvesters  output and related conditions and, if any problem observed, reporting immediately to concerned department for remedial actions.

  • Checking and recording that all essential data are collected, recorded, and maintained to be used any time as needed.

  • Checking and controlling the recording of machines performance and productivity.

  • Checking and controlling the proper use of protective devices by workers and maintenance of safety rules and precautions;

  • Creating and maintaining conducive working environment in which employees can fully involve in achieving organizational objectives;

  • Ensuring prompt handling of labor cases in conjunction with Harvesting Foreman to maintain amicable labor-Company relationships.

  • Directing, and controlling the implementation of operational standards of harvesting (proper bottoming, proper topping, and trash cleaning), and stacking.

  • Implementing cost reduction methods by efficient utilization of all types of resource and timely execution of assignments;

  • Owning responsibility for proper handling and management of all resources under custody.

  • Appraising performance of the subordinates.

  • Preparing and reviewing periodic performance reports.

  • Performing other tasks as required.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Agriculture

  • At least three experience as a Harvesting and Transport manager.

  • Experience in Sugar industry is highly desirable.


This challenging position will require a candidate with proven ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision, high level communication skills, ability to prioritize workload, attention to detail and excellent organization and managerial skills. 





They should display professional demeanor with qualities such as strong work ethics, trustworthiness, and embrace teamwork.
