Job title: Hardware Technician - Payments
Located at: Nairobi
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Salary: 80,000 - 100,000
Job Purpose: To provide technical support on Point of Sale terminals and other payment equipment.
1) Principal Accountabilities
a) Technical
- Add new terminals to LMP.
- Prepare, install and configure terminals.
- Upgrade terminals already deployed.
- Log faulty terminals into LMP.
- Receive, diagnose and assess faulty terminals.
- Prepare quotations for the repair of faulty terminals.
- Repair faulty terminals once quotation accepted.
- Decommission terminals as necessary.
- Break terminals for spares.
b) Customer Care
- Address and resolve customer queries timeously.
c) Administration
- Manage the movement and storage of stock, including terminals and components, spares and VSAT kits.
- Conduct stock takes on a monthly basis.
- Track and manage incoming and outgoing terminals, logging the movement in LMP as necessary.
- Deliver terminals to customer sites.
- Manage SLAs to ensure TPS meets customer expectations.
- Manage incoming customer orders, schedule work to meet SLAs.
- Ensure all customer paperwork is in order, including orders, delivery notes etc., and submitted to SA office timeously.
- Ensure enough spares on hand to repair terminals as necessary.
- Ensure enough terminals on hand to fulfil Barclays’ requirements.
d) Reports
- Compile and send monthly stock take reports.
- Compile and send monthly terminal fulfilment reports.
e) Other
- Any other task as assigned by management from time to time.
2) Dimensions of the Job
- This job is both technical and administrative in nature.
- The job holder needs to be able to install, configure and repair terminals.
3) Person Specification
This job requires an individual with the following:
- A team player who is able to communicate effectively at all levels, both within the organization; and with customers and suppliers.
- A highly motivated individual with a passion for high quality work and who can work with minimum supervision.
- Knowledge of Microsoft office products.
- Strong technical skills (electronic repair)
- Good communication and reporting skills
- Analysis and problem solving skills
- Planning and organizing skills
- At least 3 years work experience.
- Clean light motor vehicle driving license an advantage.
4) Financial Dimensions
- This position is key to the operational well-being of Liquid Telecom Payments Kenya.
- Consequences of error include loss of revenue associated with poor customer issue resolution resulting in customer loss.
5) Challenges within the Job
- Delivering new and repaired terminals in the contracted timescales can at times demand additional effort and focus above the norm to ensure delivery dates are met.
- Accurate record keeping and reporting.
6) Specialized Knowledge
Electronic repair and servicing, including:
- Electronics diagnosis and repair, specifically for VeriFone and Pax terminals.
- Skills include component work on printed circuit boards – aligning, soldering, testing

Deliverables and KPIs
Communication
- Answer management and customer communication within 48 hours.
- Attend weekly meeting by Skype or telephone.
Reports
- Ensure the stock take report is compiled accurately and submitted on or before the first working day of the next month to Liquid Telecom Operations South Africa Procurement and Logistics department.
- Ensure the terminal fulfilment report is compiled accurately and submitted on or before the first working day of the next month to the Barclays Account Manager.
New stock
- Ensure customer orders for new terminals are fulfilled within the contracted SLA.
- If fulfilment within the SLA is not viable, management must be informed.
Repairs
- Terminals within warranty must be repaired and returned within 1 month.
- Terminals outside warranty must be assessed, and a quotation supplied to the customer within 1 week.
- On receipt of approved quotation, the repairs must be completed within one month.
Stock management
- Monthly stock takes to be conducted accurately on or before the last working day of the month.
- Stock must be labelled, categorised, and well ordered.
- New stock must be separated from stock for repair.
- Stock for repair must be categorised into sections, by terminal type, repair status or incoming date.
