Accountant Position at a Leading Restaurant

Our client, a prestigious chain of African restaurants that is recognized both locally and internationally seeks to recruit an innovative and result - oriented professionals to fill the position of an accountant.
 

Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing financial information to ascertain completeness and accuracy of business operation cost, revenue, expenses and other financial commitments. 

 

In addition, the candidate will be responsible for preparing financial reports to support decision making in the business.

Key responsibilities and duties are:

• Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.


• Document financial transactions by entering account information.


• Recommend financial actions through analysis of various options.


• Summarize current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports.


• Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents.


• Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.  Ensure financial security by following internal controls.


• Guide accounting clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering questions.


• Perform reconciliations, including bank, creditors, debtors, fixed assets, employers benefit costs, accruals and prepaid expenses.


• Prepare payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements.


• Provide information on accounting procedure queries by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.


• Ensure compliance with government financial legal / statutory requirements by keeping abreast of existing and new legislation.


• Enforce adherence to all statutory requirements, and advise management.


• Prepare special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.


• Maintain customer confidence and protect operations by ensuring confidentiality of all financial information. This includes securing financial information and ensuring complete database backup.


• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies’ activities.


• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. 

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

• Bachelors degree in a business related field  from a recognized institution


• CPA (K) or its equivalent


• IT user skills


• Minimum 3 years working experience in a similar position


• Knowledge of corporate finance


• Good reporting skills including ability to develop report formats for both financial and research results


• Attention to detail.


• Deadline-oriented.


• Problem solving skills.


• Conversant with Kenya government tax policies and statutory compliance.
