A leading exporter of horticultural produce with own farms and pack houses is seeking to fill the position of Finance Manager

Job Objective

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the incumbent will lead, manage, and develop the services of the Finance unit such that all the financial management processes of the company are delivered in accordance with highest governance and professional standards, and all company decisions, those of its Members and Officers are made with the benefit of clear and timely financial information and advice.

Accordingly he/she will be responsible for the formulation and implementation of sound financial management policies and procedures.

Principal Accountabilities

To provide a comprehensive financial support service to the Company including accounting and budgeting, financial analysis and advice, financial planning, internal audit, insurance and risk management, procurement, treasury management, payroll and pensions, financial systems management, the payment of creditors and the collection of debts to enable the company’s services to operate to the highest possible standards of financial management.To review, develop and control the Company’s financial processes in order that they remain robust over time and meet the applicable contemporary financial standards of external assessors.To provide specialist financial advice, in written or oral form to the Company and the chief executive, Management Team and senior officers, and participate in meetings in order to ensure that all decisions are taken with appropriate and full financial advice.To perform service management tasks including service planning, budget monitoring, induction and appraisals, performance monitoring and statistical returns, contract management in order that Finance Unit services are in accordance with corporate standards and policies, and staffs are properly motivated to deliver the services required.Formulate and implement best practice financial management strategies, policies and accounting systems.Participate in developing long-term corporate strategy and business plans.Provide guidance and expertise in formulation of forward budgets and cash flow projections for the units and the group.Organize and coordinate reviewing of performance against budgets and cash flows.Direct, oversee and coordinate the work of unit accountants to ensure accurate and timely preparations of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.Review and interpret the units’ and the overall trading repots and financial statementsAdvise the board and the senior management on all financial matters including capital commitments and investment plans of the group.Develop and implement cost rationalization strategies to ensure reduction of overall operating costs.Serve as champion and link person to senior management of overall company for purposes of financial performance contract planning, negotiating, monitoring, evaluating and reporting.Train and develop accounting staff to ensure financial management functions and responsibilities are effectively and efficiently discharged to enhance financial integrity and safeguard company assets.Oversee the running of the IT department.A bachelor of Commerce or Business Administration degree with specialization in Finance and audit or equivalent.Holder of CPA (K) and member of ICPAK or their equivalents.A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in Finance and Accounting at an equivalent level, 5 of which should be in a large organization with a national scope.Practical knowledge of tax and other compliance requirements preferably from a big horticultural company.Strong computer skill, accounting packages and relevant software like pay roll and similar ERP applications.Budget development and oversight experience.Excellent communication and interpersonal relations.A team player and good people management skills, with proven leadership skills.Good analytical and decision making skills.10. Member of a professional body with a good standing to date.The position is to be filled immediately.

The Primary Duties of this role will include;

* Overall farm management and administration
* Budgeting and expenditure control.
* Making and forwarding all reports concerning the farm e.g. Monthly reports, weekly reports, accident reports etc.
* Training, demonstrating and guiding on various farm operations.
* Ensuring security accountability and good custody of company assets, information and resources.
* Carrying out Trials at the farm level.
* Dealing with staff Retention & welfare.
* Maintaining good public relations about the farm

* Must have a Degree in horticulture or related field from a recognized institution.
* Must possess certificates in F.A.C.T.S & B.A.S.I.S
* At least 5 years experience in a similar position managing a high labour intensive farm for growing among others things runner beans, mangetout, sugar snaps, tender stems broccoli, chilies and baby corn for export.
* Must have an understanding of the stringent European market, standards and related compliances in relation to food safety.
* Must possess strong attitude towards new product development, interpersonal skills and people management.
* Must be Computer literate
The primary duties of this role will include;

* Enforcing procedural rules and regulations.
* Ensuring the personal safety of staff, visitors, and property.
* Operating and monitoring security control panels alarms, and related security equipment to provide area and visitor surveillance.
* Responding to and investigating situations reported to Control Rooms. With relevant authorities investigates suspicious activities or security violations that require intervention.
* Reporting security and general maintenance problems to the proper authorities.
* Supervise the operations of the contracted Security service provider and conducting personal checks on staff.
* Attending court hearings on security related cases and traffic offences involving our motor vehicles
* Ensuring inspection compliance to all our company commercial vehicles and tractors
* Developing and implementing preventive measures against theft, fraud, fire and malicious destruction within the company and farms.

* Minimum of O level and above
* Must have qualifications in relevant training in criminal investigation or related field.
* Must be ex member of one of the disciplined/armed forces of Kenya
* Minimum of 5 years experience in a similar position.
* Must be computer literate
* Show current, expected salary and possess a current certificate of good conduct.
These positions call for people with good interpersonal and communication skills, self driven and able to work with minimal supervision.

Ideal candidates must have a minimum degree in Agriculture/Food Management or related field and five years of experience. Further, the applicant must have general knowledge of accounting and is good at presenting and interpreting costings and financial reports. He or she need to be self-driven capable of working odd hours and handling pressures associated with export of perishable goods.
