Volunteers wanted for helping children in Kenya

The International Humanity Foundation (IHF) is seeking forward-thinking, dynamic graduates to contribute to our orphanage and education center in Kenya. IHF has grown over the past 25 years under the visionary leadership of Carol Sasaki (CEO) and the dedication of thousands of volunteers from around the world.

IHF is distinct from other NGO’s in this field as we practice the ‘Pass it on’ ethos in marginalized regions. We offer the privilege of education to those who without our organization could not reach it. IHF also has centers in Thailand and Indonesia and each center is a product of its environment and follows the cultural code and norms of its host country. IHF volunteers teach English, computer and math classes as well as maintaining relationships with local staff and the local population at every centre.
In addition to teaching, our organization’s volunteers engage in:

Public relations
Fundraising
Legal
Finance
Project experts (i.e., Peace farm and food relief initiatives)
Media

At the centers, directors divide their time between teaching and nurturing the children and working on international tasks. All directors manage one or more of our international task teams such as university relations, photography, fundraising and media. Special projects constantly arise and include moving food during famine feeds to monitoring children during breaks. Our center directors have a lot of say in what they do and must possess excellent time management skills.

Those who are secure without the comforts of home gain the most from this valuable opportunity. Although we are mainly seeking those with the above expertise, IHF is willing to consider those with transferrable skills if you can demonstrate them during our application process. Fluency in English, both written and spoken is essential. Those interested in volunteering at an IHF centre are required to complete a level of pre-trip duties in order to gain an understanding of how grassroots organizations function.

Salary / Pay: IHF is a voluntary organization in the greatest sense of the term. Nobody is paid a wage from top to bottom. Directors must commit to serve at least a year at the center. Accommodation and food is provided.

Volunteer to help children in Kenya, Bali, Thailand and Indonesia

The International Humanity Foundation (IHF) is seeking forward-thinking, dynamic individuals of all ages/backgrounds to contribute to our orphanage and education centers in Kenya, Thailand or Indonesia. IHF has grown over the past 25 years under the visionary leadership of Carol Sasaki, CEO and the dedication of thousands of volunteers from around the world.

IHF is distinct from other NGO’s in this field as we practice the ‘Pass it on’ ethos in marginalized regions. We offer the privilege of education to those who without our organization could not reach it. IHF has no central headquarters, as each center is a product of its environment and follows the cultural code and norms of its host country. IHF volunteers teach English, computer and math classes as well as maintaining relationships with local staff and the local population at every centre.

In addition to teaching, our organization’s volunteers engage in:
- Public relations
- Fundraising
- Legal
- Finance
- Project experts (i.e., Peace farm and food relief initiatives)
- Media
IHF offers four unique roles for volunteers. We have opportunities for those who prefer online advocacy or those who would purely like to gain in-field experience and teach the children at one of the centers. IHF thrives because of its success in recruiting versatile volunteers. Those who are secure without the comforts of home gain the most from this valuable opportunity. Although we are mainly seeking those with the above expertise, IHF is willing to consider those with transferrable skills, if you can demonstrate them during our application process. Fluency in English, both written and spoken is essential. Those interested in volunteering at an IHF centre are required to complete a level of pre-trip duties in order to gain an understanding of how grassroots organizations function.

IHF is a voluntary organization in the greatest sense of the term. Nobody is paid a wage from top to bottom. Therefore, when volunteering with us, the volunteer will need to pay their own travel expenses. To stay at one of the centers, a $55 to $75 a week fee will cover the cost of accommodation and meals and decreases the longer you volunteer.

CodecVolunteers is a volunteer placement agency committed to providing enriching and affordable volunteer and internship opportunities in Kenya.

CodecVolunteers was established with a focus on poverty alleviation, short-term community fundraising, community empowerment and sustainable travel. We work mainly with overseas agencies on development.

Due to demand, evident with local applicants seeking to work in our programs, we seek to recruit candidates for our programs to fill the following positions.

Volunteer Co-ordinators:
We are looking for young, patriotic and passionate Kenyans who are eager to impact the lives of the needy in the community the live as well as countrywide. We give you an opportunity to serve and make an impact in people lives. We are seeking people who will be part of the change that we believe in? A just and caring society!
Duties and responsibilities of Volunteer Coordinator will be:
Creating awareness about CodecVolunteers programs
Assisting in local activities organized by CodecVolunteers
Enlist more Volunteers in our programs.
Engage in online publicity to enhance CodecVolunteers visibility.
Provide feedback to CodecVolunteers on local projects in of needs volunteer support.

Qualifications:
o One must be a Kenyan;
o Minimum holder of a Diploma in relevant field, e.g. social development, social work; community development or its equivalent from a recognized institution
o Age 18 to 30 years
o Possess excellent communication skills
o Computer literate

Successful candidates will receive a small stipend for their service and will serve for a period of one year renewable on part-time basis.

As a university student, your enthusiasm for education will be invaluable to our children and to our organization by encouraging them to constantly strive for a better future. IHF volunteers teach English, computer and math classes as well as maintaining relationships with local staff and the local population at every centre.

In addition to teaching, our organization’s volunteers engage in:

At the centers Interns divide their time between teaching and nurturing the children and working on international tasks. All volunteers participate on one or more of our international task teams such as university relations, media and fundraising. Before your arrival at the center, you must complete pre-trip tasks online to demonstrate your work ethic. Once at the center, IHF requires its interns to work eight hours a day on at-center and international tasks, six day a week. There is time to sightsee and tour the nation, but work is always the first priority.

Those who are secure without the comforts of home gain the most from this valuable opportunity. Although we are mainly seeking those with the above expertise, IHF is willing to consider those with transferrable skills if you can demonstrate them during our application process. Fluency in English, both written and spoken is essential.

Our internship program very much follows our mission of "educating the educated about the poor'. Through bringing university students to study at our centers for intensive learning experiences this allows students to go beyond the superficial in learning about the realities of poverty. This provides endless opportunities to learn intimately about the international issues of education, human rights, abuse and poverty as well as local issues such as tribal rights, land ownership, citizen status and tribal conflicts.

Pay: Upon acceptance you will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit of USD $75 which will be credited toward your weekly fee upon arrival. Once at the center, interns pay only USD $75 per week for the first four weeks, USD $55 per week for the fifth through twelfth weeks, and nothing from the thirteenth week on. These costs are to cover and room and board, both very simple.

Our Kenya center offers access to numerous wildlife parks and safaris, and our Thailand center is in the vicinity of incredible temples, waterfalls and scenery.

Your time will be divided between the children and your own chance to visit the local tourist attractions. It is very important to adhere to the local cultural codes. Fluency in English, both written and spoken is essential.

Costs: IHF is committed to offering a flexible, affordable service experience. There is no application fee, and the weekly fees for individuals are USD $150 and for couples and families only USD $200 to cover the costs for their room and board, both of which are very simple, at the center. Only married couples and immediate family will be allowed to share a room due to strict cultural codes.

United Global Volunteers International Volunteer orphanage Program in Kenya

You will work with HIV/AIDS orphans, many of whom are HIV positive. Others have

been abandoned after birth. We have orphanage projects in Nairobi, orphanages in

Mombassa, Nauru and other small towns. Orphans in Kenya orphanages and Children’s Homes are extremely disadvantaged and encounter a lot of hardships in their life. They Are deprived of many opportunities necessary for their development. The children in our Kenya orphanage projects have never experienced loving, caring and stable relationships. As an orphanage volunteer, you will help vulnerable children. The children will receive much needed attention, compassion, hope, encouragement, support and love from you. Through the education and compassion they receive from you, the children are empowered to challenge life, poverty and exploitation. Kenya volunteer orphanage placements or voluntary work with disadvantaged children is very fulfilling. Volunteering in orphanages in Kenya will be one of the most challenging positive, life changing, and rewarding experiences of your life.

Medical and Health Volunteer Program

Volunteers in this area are given responsibilities depending on their medical qualifications. Qualified doctors and nurses can carry full day to day treatment of various diseases. Medical students work under the supervision of qualified medical personnel. Volunteers that do not have medical training help in packing of drugs, painting etc. The volunteers can work in the areas of maternal health, mental health, surgery, laboratories, counseling and testing. Volunteers can work in clinics located in the slums of Nairobi, or in hospitals located elsewhere.

HIV/Aids Volunteer Program

The HIV/Aids epidemic in Africa is unusual in its scope and magnitude. Health workers

in Kenya are laboring to cope with an unprecedented surge in the number of HIV/Aids

Patients. As a HIV/Aids volunteer, you will help us mount an effective response in

Meeting the needs of our target communities. Your HIV/Aids volunteer service will

Include homecare visits to the slums bringing vital supplies of food, medicine, and

providing basic medical care. HIV/Aids volunteers help decrease the spread of HIV by raising awareness and promoting access to medical care. Volunteers also provide emotional support and foster compassion for people living with HIV/Aids in the community. Volunteers educate and counsel the community, schools and individuals. AIDS orphans are often neglected in Africa. As a volunteer in this program, you will visit HIV/Aids clinics, and help meet the needs of AIDS orphans. Masai Volunteer Program

Volunteer opportunities are available amongst the Masai tribe of Kenya. The volunteer

jobs are close to the Masai Mara Game reserve. Volunteers work in a rescue centre which accommodates Masai women and Masai girls rescued from forced marriages and those rescued from forced Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) practices. Other volunteer work available includes teaching at both primary and secondary schools located near the Masai Mara.

Teaching Program

Volunteers on the teaching program in Kenya assist with the teaching of different

subjects in Kenyan elementary and high schools. Volunteer teachers can teach

mathematics, science, geography, social sciences, history, business education, English,

art and music. Volunteer teachers are not required to have teaching experience. Our

volunteers work in schools with students who come from very difficult economic circumstances or are orphans. We invite individuals, couples, families, students, researchers, and groups (churches, colleges, and student associations). Our programs are flexible and volunteers can arrive and depart on any day all year round.

The volunteer in Kenya program fee covers in-country orientation, training, meals and

accommodation and supervision.

IHF is distinct from other NGO’s in this field as we practice the ‘Pass it on’ ethos in marginalized regions. We offer the privilege of education to those who without our organization could not reach it. IHF has no central headquarters, as each center is a product of its environment and follows the cultural code and norms of its host country. IHF ‘Voluntourists’ teach English, computer and math classes as well as maintaining relationships with local staff and the local population at every centre. The relationships formed between the children and Voluntourists are lasting as they remain in touch for years afterward.

At the centers, IHF requires its Voluntourists to work four hours a day at the center, six day a week. There is time to sightsee and tour the nation, but work remains an important priority. This is a unique position within IHF as it allows the volunteer firsthand experience in the field, also having time to explore the local area " without the need to do international tasks like other volunteers. With the chance to experience Balinese Hinduism, the busy capital of Jakarta or life in Indonesia's Islamic state, Indonesia's rich and deep cultural diversity means each of our centers here offer their own unique experience. Our Kenya center offers access to numerous wildlife parks and safaris, and our Thailand center is in the vicinity of incredible temples, waterfalls and scenery.

Those who are secure without the comforts of home gain the most from this valuable opportunity. We are looking for people who will bring a caring and nurturing attitude with the children. Your time will be divided between the children and your own chance to visit the local tourist attractions. It is very important to adhere to the local cultural codes. Fluency in English, both written and spoken is essential.

Costs: IHF is committed to offering a flexible, affordable service experience. There is no application fee, and the weekly fees for individuals are USD $150 and for couples and families only USD $200 to cover the costs for their room and board, both of which are very simple, at the center. Only married couples and immediate family will be allowed to share a room due to strict cultural codes.
