Role

Purpose:  
Under

the guidance and supervision of the Security Manager, the security assistant

will be responsible for assisting the Security Manager in the execution of his

security responsibilities at the assigned duty station. 


The

post holder will report to the Safety and Security Manager, work in close collaboration

with all Safety and Security Focal Points (SSFPs) countrywide, and will

him/herself be the Safety and Security Focal Points (SSFP) for Nairobi.

Dimensions: Save the

Children has been operational in Kenya since the 1950s, providing support to

children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered

both directly and through local partners. 




Current

programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education,

health, HIV/AIDS, livelihoods, nutrition and WASH. In 2012, as part of a global

reorganization process, Save the Children combined the programmes of SC UK, SC

Canada and SC Finland to create a single operation in Kenya. 


In Feb

2014, we completed a second transition, which saw us join forces with the

British INGO, Merlin, and merge their health and nutrition programmes with our

own. 


Save

the Children now has an operational presence in Bungoma, Dadaab Refugee Camp,

Garissa, Mandera, Turkana and Wajir and we work through partners in many other

parts of the country. 


We

employ nearly 300 staff and will have an operating annual budget in 2015 of

approximately US$20-25 million

Key Areas of Accountability:


Assist the Safety and Security Manager in Daily Duties



  • Carry

    out security briefings for new staffs and International staffs

    visiting  the SC country offices

  • Update

    security related documents as shall be assigned

  • Provide

    security updates to staffs as and when required

  • Transmit

    and receive security related information in to/from all concerned and

    participate in staff emergency/medical evacuation.

  • He

    will do a follow-up with logistics of all purchases for security

  • As

    the SSFP for Nairobi he/she will assist the SSM in the daily management of

    safety and security in Nairobi and will write the weekly District security

    report for Nairobi

  • Perform

    other assignments as shall be assigned by the Safety and Security Manager

  • With

    the assistance of the safety and security manager liaise with the UN, GoK

    and other agencies in the process of collecting an verifying security

    information

  • With

    the assistance of the Safety and Security Manager  collate

    information  from the field offices in the process of generating

    security reports

  • Travel

    to the field periodically to support the SSFPs in field office safety and

    security management


Coordinate and monitor staff movements between Nairobi and Field

Offices

  • To

    update the staff movement tracker on a daily basis

  • To

    monitor staffs moving between Nairobi and field offices

  • Submit

    to the Safety and Security Manager the staff travel tracker every

    Friday  by 4pm

  • Ensure

    that staffs who receive security briefings and orientations sign the

    relevant form

  • File

    all security related documents according to established practice

  • With

    the help of the safety and security manager ensure that all reported

    security incidents are documented.

  • Able

    to deliver timely and appropriate results using available resources

  • Is

    able to plan, prioritise and perform tasks without needing direct

    supervision.

  • Understands

    the link between their work and the larger organization’s objectives

Qualifications and Experience

  • University

    degree; those with a higher National diploma from KNEC will be considered.

  • Familiarity

    with the use of VHF and HF radio and satellite phone will be an added

    advantage.

  • Work

    experience in insecure /hostile environments.

  • Sound

    knowledge of Humanitarian principles of Impartiality and neutrality as

    outlined in the Humanitarian Charter and International Red Cross Code of

    Conduct.

  • Willingness

    to travel to insecure/hostile environments.

  • Knowledge

    of INGOs working environment is an asset.

  • Having

    a good command of written and spoken English and Kiswahili

  • Computer/IT

    proficiency with Very good command of MS Office.

  • Exposure

    to some form of  security or safety management

  • Good

    analytical skills

Role Purpose:
 The Regional Roving Logistics Manager will assist

the East Africa Region Head of Logistics to improve the capacity and

performance of logistics staff / teams in SCI country offices within the region

by working with the Country office logistics teams on a need basis. 


The position holder will be

responsible for providing technical support to specific Country offices in East

Africa and Southern Africa Region.

of Logistics – East & Southern Africa Region



While in Country Offices the position will report to:
 Country Operations Director or Country Heads of

Logistic



Dimensions:
 Save the Children works in 12 countries in East and

Southern Africa (Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia,

Tanzania, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi) with a current staff

complement of approximately 3500 staff and current expenditure of above $308

million each year.

The Regional Roving Logistics Manager

will be responsible for support to SCI Country Offices in the region through :

  • Logistics backstopping support to 4 x COs in

    East and Southern Africa Region

  • Carrying out Fleet analysis and support CO

    Heads of Logistics to manage the fleet properly

  • Support Country offices in establishing

    Framework agreements and Supplier databases

  • Support selected country offices in

    implementation of Supply Chain Management Plans

  • Carrying out Logistics compliance and capacity

    assessments

  • Monitoring logistics performance through

    reviewing monthly logistics reports for selected Country Offices

  • Helping country office logistics teams

    implement their outstanding Logistics related audit recommendations

  • Assisting Country office Logistics teams mount

    rapid and effective emergency response operations – when disasters occur

  • Preparing country office visit reports and

    following up for implementation of recommendations


To execute the above

responsibilities, the role will involve short term assignments of about two to

three weeks duration to country offices based on pre-agreed Terms of Reference.

Qualifications and Experience
 

  • A Degree in Supply Chain/ Logistics or related

    area

  • At least 3 years logistics management level

    experience in logistics in the NGO sector, within complex/large scale

    country programmes and in emergency response/humanitarian environments.

  • 1 – 2 years international experience is must.

    Experience at Regional Logistics management level a strong advantage.

  • Proven experience in all technical areas of

    logistics operations including procurement, transport/distribution,

    warehousing and stock management, fleet management, asset management,

    communications, and security

  • Experience of working in remote field bases

    with limited infrastructure

  • Experience working with large institutional

    donors and knowledge of their rules and regulations

  • Ability to synthesize and analyze information,

    and make clear, informed decisions

  • Ability to build relationships quickly with a

    wide range of people, both internally and externally

  • Strong planning, management and coordination

    skills, with the ability to organise a substantial workload comprised of

    complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities

  • Experience in developing the capacity of

    logistics staff through the use of training, performance management

    frameworks and development plans.

  • Experience in development and implementation

    of efficient logistics systems, policies and procedures.

  • Excellent written and spoken communication and

    interpersonal skills
