Job Vacancy: Regional Finance Manager
 


Location: Nairobi
 


Action Africa Help International (AAH-I) is a regional African - led non - governmental organisation that supports livelihood-challenged communities in East and Southern Africa to sustainably improve their well-being and standard of living. 






 

With Country Programmes in South Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Zambia and recently in Djibouti, AAH-I has over 25 years’ experience working with communities in conflict and post-conflict situations, including refugees, internally displaced people and host communities. 





More recently AAH-I has expanded its activities to work with other marginalised communities, including pastoralists and people living in informal urban settlements.
 


As part of our expansion we are seeking a Regional Finance Manager to join our Headquarters team in Nairobi.
 


Grade: AH 3
 


Department: Finance
 


Reports to: Finance and Administration Director
 


Staff reporting to this post: Finance and Admin staff
 


Liaises with: Country Finance Managers
 


Duty Station: Nairobi with travel to field locations
 


Purpose of the role: Under the overall leadership of the Finance and Administration Director, the Finance Manager will be responsible for managing all the operational budget in HQ and Somalia program. 





S/he will work closely with the Country Program Manager – Somalia and all the support teams to ensure shared services are costed properly and accurately charged. 





S/he will work to ensure there is satisfactory performance of the HQ and Somalia program financial operations. 





The Finance Manager will efficiently and effectively ensure all aspects of financial management in accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and financial forecasts preparation are done and in a timely and accurate manner both at HQ and Somalia program 





Duties & Responsibilities
 


Management

  • Manage internal controls to ensure full adherence to approved budgets and compliance with AAHI systems, policies and procedures ensuring proper utilization of funds in accordance with donor requirements and approved budget and to ensure accurate and timely recording and reporting of the HQ and Somalia program resources.

  • Provide guidance to the Finance Director and CPM- Somalia with an aim of making prudent and strategic decisions to minimize risk exposure and ensure the HQ and Somalia operations are financially healthy.

  • Oversee the operations of the HQ accounting department and the Somalia program

  • Ensure quality control over the financial transactions and financial reporting

  • Manage the charging of the Shared services costs at HQ

  • Manage all accounting operations including Accounts receivable, general ledger, Payables and Revenue recognition of the Somalia program.

  • Engage on donor liaison for the Somalia program.


Transactions

  • Ensure all HQ data is entered into the system on a timely and accurate manner.

  • Ensure the Somalia call downs from the field are processed on time

  • Ensure periodic bank reconciliations for the Somalia program

  • Maintain a system of controls and quality of data over the accounting transactions

  • Maintain an orderly filling system for both the HQ and Somalia program.


Reporting

  • Issue timely, accurate and complete financial statements for the HQ and Somalia program

  • Manage the production of budget for both HQ and Somalia program

  • Prepare monthly management accounts for the HQ and Somalia program.

  • Prepare financial reports for HQ and project audits as and when they fall due.

  • Prepare financial reports and documentation for periodic donor verification


Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with donor , host government, and AAHI requirements

  • Ensure full compliance with budgets spending guidelines.

  • Make tax fillings and returns for the Somalia country program.


Professional qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Commerce or equivalent with CPA (K) certification

  • Master’s in Business Accounting, Commerce or Finance, will be an added advantage

  • At least eight (8) years of relevant work experience in financial management

  • Excellent technical financial management skills, including the ability to understand and work with restricted and unrestricted funds concepts and project funding issues

  • Excellent financial planning, budgeting and report-writing skills

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex financial issues, both orally and in writing, to a variety of recipients, including external donors and internal staff


Additional Skills & Competences

  • Good understanding of humanitarian aid and development programming

  • Good financial management and budgeting skills

  • Strong analytical skills with good attention to detail

  • Ability to analyze and synthesize information

  • Ability to work on own initiative and collaboratively as part of a diverse team

  • Good negotiation skills, and strong problem solving abilities

  • Ability to analyze staff development needs (finance-and administration related) and to contribute to the delivery of training and coaching at an individual and group level

  • Self-motivated, flexible and adaptive to the needs of the team and organization

  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity working with computer-based financial systems
