Qualifications and Requirements:


MEDICAL SPECIALISTS – FIVE (5) POSTS –(Obstetrics and Gynaecology– 4 posts, General Surgeon – 1 post)


For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:



  • (i) a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B. Ch.B.) degree from a university recognized in Kenya

  • (ii) a Masters degree in any of the following fields: Medicine, Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopedics Surgery or equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board;

  • (iii) a Certificate of Registration from the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board;

  • (iv) a valid practicing license from the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board; and

  • (v) demonstrated professional competence and managerial capability as reflected in work performance


Responsibilities:


Duties and Responsibilities: –



  • i) performing complex and advanced clinical patient management in areas of specialization;

  • (ii) coordinating, training, coaching, and mentoring of health personnel; managing health stores including essential medicines and/or plant and equipment;

  • iii) managing larger facilities/hospitals;

  • (iv) developing intervention activities or programmes for the management of diseases and conditions;

  • (v) developing medical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols;

  • (vi) coordinating emergency response and clinical care; (vii) coordinating health projects and programmes;

  • (viii) managing health information systems;

  • (ix) carrying out health surveys and research; and

  • (x) monitoring the provision of forensic and medico-legal services
