The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) is a multi-disciplinary state corporation whose core mandate is identification, preservation, conservation and development of Kenya’s rich and diverse heritage. We are seeking to recruit exceptional Kenyans with strong administrative, organizational and leadership skills and extensive experience in areas of specialization to fill the positions below:

Financial Controller

Reporting to the Director General, the Financial Controller will be entrusted with planning, monitoring and implementation of the organization’s financial and accounting management strategy Duties and Responsibilities

Overall co-ordination, control and direction of the NMK’s financial resources and policies;Accounting and coordinating of budget estimates, formulating and planning;Preparing financial management and project accounts;Carrying out budgeting forecasting; ensuring compliance by use of appropriate accounting systems, standards and procedures;Maintaining statutory accounts and preparing appropriate financial reports to the management, Board of Directors, the Government of Kenya and Donors;Establishing and maintaining effective internal control systems;Liaising with Treasury through the Parent Ministry on all Government of Kenya policy matters relating to financial management;Liaising with external auditors, the National Audit office and the Controller and AuditorGeneral on financial management issues.An MBA, a university degree plus full professional qualifications such as CPA, ACCABe a member of ICPAK-KHave served in a senior Finance or Accountant position in the Public Service or a large private sector organization for a period of not less than five (5) years;Thorough knowledge of Finance and Accounting principles, procedures and practicesExperience in computerized accounting and auditing systemsExcellent communication skills.Terms: Initial appointment will be on a three-year contract, which will be renewable based on output and mutual agreement.Salary Scale: KES. 96,590 – 134,205 per month, a house allowance of KES. 40,000 per month and other incentives.

Surveyor

Reporting to the Director Museum Sites and Monuments the experienced Surveyor with a background in managing multiple sites and a high workload will be entrusted with planning and implementation of the organization survey work strategy.

Carrying out topographical and cadastral surveysFacilitation in survey, registration and acquisition of titles belonging to the institutionMaintenance of land information system in the spatial databaseImprove on existing survey systems to ensure that internal operational survey work are analyzed and up to datePrepare and operationalise an annual survey plan and budgetProvide both the Board and management with regular assessment and opinion on effectiveness of NMK survey operationsBachelors degree in a relevant field plus full professional qualificationsBe a member of Institute of Surveyors of Kenya, Land SurveyorsHave training in GIS/GPS/Remote Sensing/Land Administration and managementCompetences in GIS applications software e.g. Arc GIS seriesKnowledge of Data Base Management and SQLHave served in a surveyor position in a busy environment for a period of not less than three (3) yearsGood communication skills Terms: Initial appointment will be on a three-year contract, which will be renewable based on output and mutual agreement.

The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) has been mandated by the Government of Kenya to erect a National Monument in honour of the National Heroes and Heroines at the Mashujaa Square, Uhuru Gardens.

NMK seeks design competition from eligible firms to provide quality design, which enhances recognition of the Heroes and Heroines of Kenya.

Objective

NMK is running a competition whose objective is to select a design proposal for a utilitarian and functional monument that should symbolize our National unity, integrity, diversity and richness while capturing the spirit of selflessness and sacrifice demonstrated by our heroes and heroines.

The proposed design should also embody tangible and intangible heritage. It should be uniquely Kenyan, have an exhibition space, shrine, a documentation space, public amenities, clear passage and be able to hold at least 500 people at once as an entity.

It should be in harmony with the surroundings and made of weather compliant materials.

Submission Requirements

Competitors should be Kenyan citizens preferably from a consortia of qualified architects, sculptors, artists and designers.Participating Consortia must demonstrate competence in areas of architecture, engineering, design, quantity survey and art with at least six years of experience as outlined in a portfolio.A brief report outlining detailed design plans, construction method, materials to be used and finishes.A 3-Dimensiional model of the monument in relation to the site measuring 150cm by 150cm.Submitted entries should be anonymous; however they should be number-coded as per the Terms of reference conditions.The following prizes will be awarded to the winning competitors by the client (National Museums of Kenya):
Model design placed 1st Ksh.300,000/=Model design placed 2nd Ksh.200,000/=Model design placed 3rd Ksh.100,000/=Interested eligible candidates, may obtain further information and detailed Design, Terms of Reference from the Office of the Principal Procurement Officer at the National Museums of Kenya Headquarters, Museum Hill road during normal working hours.

The candidates are advised to visit the Heroes and Heroines corner at Uhuru Gardens, Langata Road, Nairobi for information.

Complete set of design proposal shall be wax sealed and delivered to:

and be deposited in the Tender Box located at the Louise Leakey Memorial Building on or before 9th September, 2011 at 12.00 p.m.

The competitors are invited to witness the opening of the proposals.

Models prepared shall be sealed and delivered at the same time with the design proposal and the winners shall be announced within seven (7) days after submission of proposals. The Jury’s decision shall be final.
