(WASH)
 



Line manager: Country Manager

 



Location: Nairobi, with national and international travel required

 



Contract duration: 12 Months (with a view to extend)

 



Start date: December 2015

Job Summary: This varied role provides the opportunity to work as a key part of a small, dynamic and rapidly growing international team. 



The key aims of the role are to drive the increase of the charity’s the capacity of the organization to implement projects that are technically correct and cost effective. 



Achieving these aims will require you to be innovative and proactive whilst receiving direct support, guidance and training from the charity’s Country Manager and Director. 



The direct outcome of your work will be to enable Dig Deep to greatly increase the number of communities we can help to access clean water and sanitation.
 



Key Responsibilities


  • Overall supervision of water and sanitation construction activities including preparing technical designs and bills of quantities

  • Train and build the capacity of staffs and partners

  • Coordinate with internal staff and local stakeholders to ensure smooth project implementation

  • Implement data collection system as part of DD’s Monitoring and Evaluation Programme.

  • Communicate project selection criteria to potential beneficiaries and stakeholders.

  • Provide information and recommendations on infrastructure to Kenyan team, beneficiaries and stakeholders to facilitate participatory planning projects (e.g. cost, technical spec etc.).

  • Implement procurement process in line with procurement policy to identify preferred suppliers.

  • Draft infrastructure contracts with preferred suppliers.

  • Monitor construction of infrastructure.

  • Sign off on completion of infrastructure to contractual standards.

  • Support development and implementation of aspects of training and support systems related to infrastructure.

  • Provide feedback on learning points.

  • Implement programme coordination and progress reporting system.

  • Feedback on draft strategic review.

  • Attend appropriate networking events.

  • Work with partners in line with partnership MOUs and contracts


Skills and Experience Required
 



Essential 



  • Experience of reviewing technical plans and BQ’s

  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation of projects 


  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 


  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills 


  • Proficient in MS Office Applications 



Preferred 



  • Degree in Water Engineering, Public Health and other related fields

  • Previous experience in WASH construction activities

  • Professional, good organizational capacity, motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible and, culturally sensitive

  • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited.

  • Team-player with good inter-personal skills
