Role overview
The Manager, Cost Proposal, Finance (MCPF) contributes to African Wildlife Foundation’s (AWF) fundraising effort from the Program Design (PD) and Development teams by taking lead responsibility for budget designs for AWF programs and project proposals for all donors. The MCPF will oversee the creation and updating of budget frameworks for landscape, country and thematic programs across the organization as part of AWF’s strategy and business planning process and will be responsible for developing cost applications, budgets and budget narratives for project proposals. This involves leading and guiding a team working on cost proposals, designing and overseeing systems for ensuring budget designs for project proposals for all donors are robust, competitive, and compliant with contractual agreements between AWF and donors. This includes ensuring information for cost proposals is accurate, realistic, and strategically aligned with AWF cost recovery requirements (adequate staffing levels and costing, activity costs based on past actual expenditures and/or sourced data, phasing of budget that aligns with procurement rules and procedures. Working in coordination with country, landscape, technical, fundraising account managers and finance teams, the MCPF is a key contributor to AWF’s fundraising efforts to mobilize sufficient resources for existing and planned program activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in collaborating across functions within AWF and other key stakeholders to address proposal risks, compliance and competitiveness concerns.
Education, Language & Qualifications
- Master’s degree and experience in finance, economics, accounting, business or other relevant field.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required. French and/or German language skills are desired.
Essential Knowledge, skills and Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience with and developing cost proposals for major public donor agencies such as USAID, EU, the GEF or Germany.
- Excellent budgeting skills are a must, including the ability to work with technical leads to build accurate and realistic cost proposals.
- Must possess database management skills.
- ·Must possess strong skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Must be proficient in research, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data and processes.
