Africa Economic Research
Consortium (AERC) is partnering with the Palladium US Group to implement PROPEL
Health Kenya project funded by USAID. PROPEL Health aims to improve the
enabling environment for equitable and sustainable health services, supplies,
and delivery systems through: (1) policy development and implementation, (2)
adequate, predictable, and sustainable health financing, (3) enhanced
government stewardship, transparency, and accountability, and (4) use of
evidence-based advocacy approaches at global, national, and subnational levels
to promote best practices. It focuses on family planning/reproductive health
(FP/RH), primary healthcare, and the integration of FP/RH with HIV and maternal
and child health (MCH). AERC is seeking to fill the position of a
Project Coordinator, to be based in Nairobi, Kenya. This position will report
to the Manager of Research.
Overall, Job Purpose
The Project Coordinator will support the Research Department for efficient and
effective implementation of planned activities in the PROPEL Health
Kenya Project. She/he will also provide logistical support during the
organization and implementation of the research workshops and short-term
training, as well as data/information management in the project. The incumbent
will work closely with the Managers of Research, other Programme Administrators
and Assistants to ensure that high performance standards in the project are
achieved and maintained.
Duties &
Responsibilities
- Preparing project reports, call for proposals and expression
of interest among others initiated from the Research Manager in charge of
the PROPEL Health. - Preparing quarterly documentation of the project activities
and liaise with the communications department. - Preparing preliminary documentation for workshops and
meetings. The documents include the agenda, invitations of partners and
stakeholders involved in the project. - Organizing and attending workshops, high level meetings with
partners and stakeholders of PROPEL health. - Organizing high-level policy meetings and intergovernmental
liaison in PROPEL Health Countries. - Taking record of meeting deliberations and circulation to
relevant stakeholders - Recording key decision points during meetings deliberations,
verdicts on acceptance/ rejections of proposals, grants award and payment
of instalments among others. - Managing the PROPEL Health Project calendar: The calendar
will depict timelines and expected milestones of the project. - Organizing and coordinating technical training and workshops
logistics. - Developing curriculum and modules for PROPEL Health technical
training workshops. - Liaise with the communication department on branding and
meeting items for PROPEL Health - Performing any other duties assigned by the Managers of
Research and the Director of Research.
Qualification and Experience
- Master of Arts in Economics with specialization in health
economics or Master of Science in Public Health preferably with a
postgraduate qualification in health economics or health systems
management. - 7 years and above relevant experience in working in programs,
implementing primary health care, FP/RH, HIV, and maternal child health
projects. - Experience with coordinating and reporting system for USAID
funded projects. - Strong track record in publication in economics
- Experience in coordination and management of large-scale policy-oriented
research in economics is a requirement. - Experience in coordination of a network of Senior Researchers
Key Skills and
Competencies
- Understanding of health systems and resource allocation in
the health sector. - Very good familiarity with statistical, econometric software
and management of large data set. - Ability and readiness to travel within Africa.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in
English - Well organized and able to multi-task and meet deadlines with
attention to details. - Good interpersonal skills
- Good team player
- Ability to work in a computerized office environment;
familiarity with software such as Word, Excel, and Access; and willingness
to learn additional software programs as may be required. - Ability to work under pressure.
