We are looking for a motivated
and qualified professional to fill the position of UNDERWRITING
ASSISTANT
OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The role holder will be
responsible for the assessment, analysis and determination of terms of risks
presented, pricing of the risks and timely processing of quotations
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Computing competitive quotations in line with our underwriting
guidelines and discussing them with clients. - Posting all policy details while ensuring accuracy and
correctness of rates, risk details, relevant clauses, terms, exclusions
& conditions and scrutiny of brokers’ risk notes and proposal forms. - Issuance of all policy documentation - cover notes,
certificates of motor insurance, Comesa Yellow Cards, Policy documents,
endorsements, renewals, etc. - Processing of renewals, printing and reviewing the prelist,
review of renewal terms, preparation and dispatch of monthly renewal
notices, client visits/renewal meetings and subsequent follow up of
renewals with intermediaries and direct clients. - Timely processing Insurance Premium Finance and Bank Lien or
Mortgage confirmation forms and sending to the banks. - Attending to customers – walk in customers, personal visits,
broker visits, email, letters, phone, and handling technical enquiries
from brokers and direct clients. - Preparation and submission of regular personal performance
reports as required including daily update of Personal Work Management
Tool. - Processing pre-insurance motor valuations to ensure all
valuation reports in the system and ensure any improvement or other
recommendations are communicated and followed up with customers in time - Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
Academic Qualifications
- University degree in Law/Insurance/Business Administration or
its equivalent from a recognized institution
Professional Qualifications
- Certificate of Insurance (COP)
- Diploma in insurance from AIIK/ACII from a recognized
institution or good progress towards attainment of the same. - Membership to a relevant professional body will be an added
advantage
Experience
- Minimum 1 year’s relevant experience in general insurance underwriting
in a busy Insurance Company. - Experience in tenders is an added advantage
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Strong analytical skills and great attention to details
- Self-driven, works with minimal supervision
