Build Africa Kenya is a Non Governmental Organization that works exclusively in rural areas of Kenya to help young people escape poverty by supporting education and income generation activities.

Our aim is to create sustainable models for increasing the incomes of the poor and better access to education and healthcare.

We give young people (including parents and the community at large) the chance to save, to work their way out of poverty and to increase the prosperity of their communities.

Our vision is for every young person in Africa to fulfill their potential and to make a difference.

As part of our ongoing effort to improve the quality of our program delivery, we are seeking talented and socially responsible individuals with exceptional skills, background, education and a passion for using investment and education as a tool to alleviate poverty in rural communities to fill the following positions:

Programme Coordinator

Based in Machakos County and reporting to the Area Programme Manager, the position entails significant travel to the field.

He/she will be responsible for implementing high quality programs including monitoring, evaluation and reporting. This post also supports planning and design processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage and coordinate the Education Quality Improvement (EQUIP) programme interventions in Mwala and Machakos districts by ensuring that interventions meet expected standards and qualityProvide regular feedback to staff in Machakos, the senior management team and other external stakeholders on programme progress by maintaining a robust and functional Monitoring and Evaluation frameworkCoordinate programme reporting and responsible for quality monthly and quarterly progress reportsConduct trainings to include Training Needs Assessment, facilitating and writing training reports.Monitor Child Protection issues in programs and ensure implementation of Build Africa’s policy on the same.In consultation with the APM, support donor visits to include preparation of itineraries, vetting of visitation sites and accompanying them to the field.Actively participate in budget preparation & monitoring and managing of the regional budgetPerson Specifications and Competencies:
A relevant postgraduate qualification from a recognized university with at least three (3) years project management experience: or a basic degree and at least five (5) years of demonstrated experience.
Candidates with previous experience in managing related development projects, preferably with an INGO, and with substantial experience of working directly with communities stand a good chance.
He/she should be proactive, able to question the status quo in his/her day to day work and should be aware of Child Protection issues.
He/she should be of high integrity to be able to model Build Africa’s core values.
Candidates must be strong in community training, have Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) skills and be willing to work under hard conditions in the rural areas.Program Assistants

2 Positions

The position is responsible for high quality program activity implementation to include community mobilization, community partnership liaison, data capture and reporting.

He/she will be expected to continually observe the day-to-day effectiveness of programme delivery, noting and reporting on any areas where improvements are possible.

The two positions will each be based in Machakos and Naivasha with significant travel to the field.

Key Responsibilities

Organize and conduct community based trainingsIdentify project beneficiaries as needed, and collect evidence of program impact from the beneficiariesCollect and enter into MIS relevant program data including KPIsPrepare detailed monthly project activity reportsPerson Specifications and Competencies
A minimum of a relevant first degree from a recognized university with at least a year of demonstrated experience implementing development projects, preferably with a local NGO and should have experience of directly working with communities.
He/she must be able to speak the local language in the area of posting and should be proactive in thinking
He/she should be aware of Child Protection issues and be a person of high integrity that will model Build Africa’s core values.
Besides willing to work under hard conditions in the rural areas, the right candidate should be able to ride a motorcycle.

Build Africa is seeking to recruit new members for its Board in Kenya.

The BAK Board is an Advisory Board and will be bound by the decisions of the Build-Africa UK executive that is in turn answerable to the UK Management Board.

The role of the BAK Advisory Board is to ensure that BAK fulfils its aims in line with the organisation’s mission and vision.

The Advisory Board will specifically provide direction to BAK: review and offer advice on BAK’s strategic plan, annual plans and budgets, advice to management and to the Chief Executive in the appointment of the Country Director.

The Board will monitor organizational performance and compliance with the constitution and relevant legislation, review and offer advice to BAK on policy and procedures to ensure integrity in management practices and ensure BAK operates within the highest ethical standards.

Board members will be called upon to represent BAK to a variety of bodies and be well informed of the activities of the organisation so as to be able to promote the good name of the organisation.

BAK is looking for board members with the following professional and technical skills: Program Development especially enterprise /income generation, education, gender, HIV and environment; Business or NGO leadership, change management and Organisational Development; Fundraising, government and donor contacts; and Finance.

Person specifications include: a person of high integrity; experience in any of the above competencies; team player; a good communicator; willingness to voice opinions, to devote time to BAK and to be held accountable by BAK stakeholders.

Advisory Board members will serve a period of three years and may be re-appointed up to a maximum of six years i.e. two terms. Advisory Board members will serve on voluntary basis and will not be remunerated financially or otherwise for their services.

* Capture evidence of program impact through identifying and writing success stories and capturing beneficiary voices.
* Organize and take lead in regular BAK/beneficiaries progress review.
* Support donor visits to include preparation of TORs, vetting of visitation sites, and accompanying donors.
* Line manages Program Assistants to include coaching and mentoring them to learn and practice BAKs culture of innovation and creativity in programs, including proactively reporting any areas of potential improvement.

The Program Assistant is responsible for high quality program activity implementation to include community mobilization, training, community partnership liaison, data capture and reporting.

The job holder will be expected to continually observe the day-to-day effectiveness of programme delivery, noting and reporting any areas where improvements are possible.

The 2 positions will be based in Machakos and Naivasha with significant travel to the field.

Key Responsibilities
* Implement core program and cross cutting activities as per the work plan

* Manage and keep warm community based partnerships
* Identify project beneficiaries and as needed, collect evidence of program impact from the beneficiaries
* Collect and enter into MIS relevant program data including KPIs
* Make continual informal observations of BAK’s program delivery, noting and reporting all any potential problems, notable successes and suggestions for improvements
* Provide high quality photographs and Video clips for use in fundraising
* Prepare detailed monthly project activity reports

The right candidate will have a minimum of a relevant first degree from a recognized university with at least a year of demonstrated experience implementing development projects, preferably with a local NGO and should have experience of directly working with communities.

Driver – Country Office
We are seeking for a person to provide reliable and courteous transportation service to staff and visitors with safety a top priority.

Based in Nairobi, this is a responsible position and the duties among others include:
* Provide driving services to staff while on all official duties
* Performing minor maintenance tasks on the vehicles when necessary;
* Ensuring that periodic scheduled vehicle maintenance is completed and reported
* Ensuring that the statutory vehicle requirements such as Inspection & Insurance are fulfilled on time
* Ensuring that all the vehicles are clean all the time, and the mileage book entries are up to date.
* Collect/Deliver mails and packages as necessary.
* Carry out errands including paying of the utility bills and postage.

Competencies:
The prospective candidate must have good time management skills and able to handle tasks with minimal supervision. He/she must be a person of high integrity and have basic understanding of Front Office functions, use of common office equipment and be able to communicate fluently in English and Swahili.

The candidate must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, has undergone defensive driver and first aid training.
