The Standard Group, a multi-media house comprising The Standard stable of newspapers, The County Weekly, KTN television, Radio Maisha, PDS, Standard Digital World and Think Outdoor wishes to recruit talented, self-motivated, energetic, results-driven individuals to fill the following positions:

Sub Editors

The Sub Editors are the gate-keepers who put together the newspaper and ensure that stories are edited to house style and free of errors, and that the presentation in terms of design and layout is appealing and conforms to house style.

Role of the Position

You will be part of our Editorial team under the overall direction of the Group Chief Editor with the
following roles:

To edit stories for accuracy, facts, grammar and simplicity.To edit pictures selected to go with particular stories.Write headlines and captions.Lay out pages and sign off for press.University degree with a bias ¡n English or Mass CommunicationTraining in JournalismMinimum of two years experience.Well developed analytical skills.Ability to make quick decisions and to improvise if necessary.Energy and ability to work irregular hours.Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.High degree of integrity.

Job description:

You will be sourcing, editing, writing and uploading content to be distributed to users on their mobile devises – e.g. national and international news, sport, weather – in 16 African countries.As part of our editor team, you will be working with the group and individually.Possibility to be assigned to ad hoc content projects that develop content such as ringtones, Trivia, wall papers etc.The editors work from 7 AM to 3 PM, daily including shifting weekends, and with two days off each week.Speak and write French, English and Swahili fluently.Min. diploma in linguistics.Good at phrasing and formulating in writing.Computer literate: Competent in MS Office, web and communication tools.You are a team player, positive towards acquiring new skills, self-motivated and results oriented.French fluently in oral and writing is an advantage.Salary to be negotiated.
