Research Assistants and Consultants 2014/15 - 2015/16
The Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) is a public Institute established in 1997 to support public policy by contributing to the formulation of medium and long-term strategic perspectives for development of the country as well as developing the required human and institutional capacities.
This is achieved by undertaking economic forecasting, policy analysis and research, and through capacity building for the achievement of national development goals. It is governed by the KIPPRA Act No. 15 of 2006.
The Institute works with a wide variety of individual consultants from time to time. 
The Institute is inviting experienced and qualified individuals to submit their Expressions of Interest to provide consultancy services whenever need arises in the following areas during 2014/15 and 2015/2016 financial years:
A: Research / Capacity Building Consultants (Category 1)
Macroeconomics (Economic policy and growth, Investment, Inflation, Fiscal and monetary policy, Macroeconomic modeling);
Productive Sector (Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Tourism, Environment and Natural resources);
Trade and Foreign Policy (Domestic & International Trade, International relations)
Social Sector (Poverty, Education, Health, Labour market, and Other social issues);
Infrastructure and Economic Services (Physical Infrastructure, Water, Energy, Transport, Urban & Regional Planning, ICT, Housing and Construction);
Private Sector Development (Financial services, Business environment, Small and Medium Enterprises);
Governance (Land, Constitutional issues, Security, Economic and Corporate governance)
Candidates applying for consideration as research/capacity building consultants: Must have minimum qualification of MA/MSc in Economics or related social sciences (Candidates with PhD qualifications will have added advantage). Must have at least Two(2) years’ post MA/MSc relevant research experience in their areas of expertise Must have at least Three (3) publicationsB: Research Assistants (Category 2)
KIPPRA also invites Expressions of Interest by individuals who would like to be considered for its database of Research Assistants. Whenever need arises, research assistants will be picked from this database. Must have minimum qualification of a first degree from a recognized university. Those with previous experience in research work will have an added advantage. C: Editorial, Design and Photography Consultants (Category 3)
The Institute also invites Expressions of Interest from qualified and experienced individuals in the areas of publication editing, design and photography.
(i) Editorial consultants must have at least a first degree and five (5) years practical experience in reviewing manuscripts, copy editing and proofreading. They must be proficient in the use of DTP software, particularly MS Office, Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
(ii) Design consultants must have at least a certificate in Design and at least five (5) years experience in design using DTP software, particularly Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
(iii) Photography consultants must have at least five (5) years experience in photography and use of camera to produce high quality images for print production and for video.

D: Media Liaison Consultants (Category 4)

KIPPRA also invites Expressions of Interest from individuals who could be offered short-term contracts to liaise with the media in the dissemination of the Institute’s research and other outputs. The media consultant will mainly assist in (i) attracting media attention to KIPPRA events, and (ii) offering advice on how to increase the dissemination of KIPPRA outputs in visual, audio and print media outlets,
Must have a first degree in media communications andMust have at least 5 years of experience in the industry.Those who meet the above requirements and are available to work on short-term consultants at short notice are encouraged to express their interest. If you are interested and meet these requirements, download and fill a Personal History Form (PHF) from KIPPRA’s website (http://www.kippra.or.ke/) and submit it together with an application letter, CV and copies of educational and professional certificates, as part of your expression of interest.

KIPPRA Communications Officer and Internal Auditor Jobs in Kenya

Job Title: Communications Officer. Grade: KIP 5
Division: Knowledge Management and Communications
Reporting to: Knowledge Management and Communications Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities: Assistant Communications Officer

The incumbent will be expected to manage all KIPPRA internal and external communications in liaison with other Knowledge Management and Communications staff * Supporting the Executive Director in developing and implementing a communication and engagement strategy;
* Developing communication messages to ensure visibility of the Institute, including drafting press releases, assisting researchers to draft media articles from their published papers, responding to media queries and handling public relations;
* Managing the KIPPRA website, which includes regular updating and monitoring;
* Designing, developing and producing the KIPPRA Policy Monitor (internal newsletter), which includes leading editorial and planning meetings, sourcing articles and images, sub-editing and proof reading articles;
* Managing all KIPPRA internal and external communications, which includes design and development of all the communications;
* Developing, implementing and maintaining a strong KIPPRA image and brand;
* Monitoring and documenting the performance of the Institute in the area of communication and stakeholder engagement;
* Building the capacity of researchers to communicate and engage effectively with a diverse range of audiences; and
* Planning and coordinating all KIPPRA external events. Desired technical Qualifications* Masters Degree in Communications or a related discipline.
* At least five (5) years experience in communications, media liaison and public relations. * Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills;
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders;
* Ability to analyze technical information from different research outputs and to synthesize this information into coherent briefs, media articles and communication documents; and
* Flexibility, creativity and effectiveness in working collaboratively with all stakeholders under tight deadlines.
Job Title: Internal Auditor. Grade: KIP 6
Division: Internal Audit
Reporting to: Board of Directors

Supervisory Responsibilities: Assistant Internal auditor

The internal auditor shall assess the adequacy of risk management, control and governance processes put in place by the management and also provide an independent objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve the Institute’s operations by assisting the management and Audit Committee in the effective discharge of their duties and responsibilities. The key responsibilities are:
* Review the reliability and the integrity of financial and operating controls and recommending effective control methods at reasonable costs
* Ascertaining the extent of compliance with the Institute’s established policies, plans, procedures, and regulations that could have significant impact on its operations
* Identify and evaluate the risks that impact on the operations and then assist in identifying the most appropriate strategies, policies, procedures and controls to manage risks to a level acceptable to management.
* Communicate audit issues and recommendations concerning areas being reviewed to the board and senior management through a comprehensive and complete report of audit area
* Carry out forensic audits where required and as may be appropriate
* Provide secretarial support to Board Audit Committee
* Follow up outstanding audit issues to confirm that corrective/remedial action is taken on reported audit findings and recommendations. Desired technical Qualifications* University Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business administration, Masters will be an added advantage
* At least 5 years experience in Management, financial and ICT audits
* Certified Public Accountant final-CPA (K);
* Experience in using computerized auditing and accounting applications, risk management and internal controls; * Ability to plan, work and execute projects with minimum supervision and to complete work within required deadlines
* Demonstrate excellent analytical skills
* Demonstrated high levels of initiative, autonomy, adaptability, maturity and sound judgment
