Farm Manager / Supervisor Job in Nanyuki Kenya

We are a progressive medium sized family business doing mixed cropping farm in Nanyuki County and in need of an farm manager cum farm supervisor.

The position requires someone with strong organisational qualities to assist in the day to day running of the units, contributing positively to the success of the farm.
 

Successful candidate must have the demonstrated ability to supervise and lead while at the same time function as a member of the team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Co-ordinate and supervise the work of general farm workers


• Supervise and oversee growing and other crop-related operations


• Develop work schedules and establish procedures


• Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed


• Perform general farm duties and work with other team members to assure completion of work


• General farm work – planting, harvesting, propagation, irrigation


• Accurate record keeping – Monitoring and documenting all yields, sales and record keeping for all transactions and activities in the farm.


• Ensuring market orders are met fully and on time


• Maintaining and Continuously monitoring the quality and performance of the farm


• Ensuring profitability of the farm by advising management on the desired crops to be planted in each season and the available markets.


• Ensuring smooth running of the operations of the whole farm including farm Planning, setting production targets, and ensuring achievements of set targets; liaising with the owners in managing the firm effectively.


• Train and supervise farm workers to ensure an efficient day to day activities & operations.


• Marketing and selling produce,


• Maintaining knowledge of pests and diseases and understand how they spread and how to treat as well as control them.


• To plan and direct all farm activities from land preparation, planting, disease prevention and control, and post harvest management


• Develop performance measurement indexes for all agricultural operations and evaluates accordingly


• Safeguard the assets of the farm.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of the general practices and procedures used in the various types of farming.


• Thorough knowledge of safety precautions and occupational hazards of farming.


• Thorough knowledge of plant diseases and proper treatment.


• Enjoy working outside in all kinds of weather


• A responsible attitude and to be able to work independently


• Ability to carry out manual duties


• Able to handle isolation and minimal social interaction


• Reliable and committed

Qualifications:

• Degree/Diploma or Certificate in an Agricultural course or a relevant training.


• Minimum of 5 years experience in farm management in a commercial farm.


• Excellent agronomic knowledge of crop and animal husbandry skills.


• Excellent people management and communication (verbal/written )skills, the ability to lead a team and be an dynamic team player

The candidate should be fit, energetic, and resilient, and be comfortable to be located in the rural Nanyuki.

Salary: We are looking for somebody who is confident enough of their abilities. In this regard the remuneration will be in the form of a very attractive profit sharing. A basic operating allowance will be provided during the initial 3 months.
