Our client is a leading TV Station in Ghana. They are looking to fill the position of a Chief Operating Officer, to be based in Accra – Ghana.



 


Job Purpose: To manage and coordinate the technical infrastructure/operations (network and   systems) of the company to ensure that an efficient and smooth television experience is provided, customer confidence and satisfaction is boosted and more revenue generated. 



He or she will also be responsible for providing the CEO with effective operational support at the core of the business in the area of technology, systems and engineering.




Major Responsibilities & Accountabilities:


  • Provides policy direction and advice to the company to ensure smooth business operations without any interruptions in television broadcast.

  • Provides efficient and effective operational leadership for the business.

  • Leads the Production and Engineering teams to deliver uninterrupted programming for the organization.

  • Anticipates, specifies and recommends any technical and production equipment to be purchased to ensure that appropriate equipment is used to enhance viewer experience.

  • Ensures adequacy and quality of transmitting equipment at the main transmitting sites for quality transmissions.

  • Liaises with external suppliers, maintenance and related support teams to ensure good rapport and/or good working relationship between them and the company.

  • Provides vital input in the strategic framework of the business.

  • Spearheads all technical initiatives and strategies in support of the business revenue activities.

  • Responsible for driving the company to achieve and surpass sales, profitability, cash flow and business goals and objectives.

  • Set aggressive and achievable operational and/or performance goals for each department which is tied to long-term company goals.

  • Develop and cascade the organization’s strategy /mission statement to the lower ranking staff and implement appropriate rewards /recognition and coaching / corrective practices to align personnel with company goals.

  • At the direction of the CEO and the Board of Directors, marshal limited resources to the most productive uses with the aim of creating maximum value for the company’s stakeholders.

  • Monitors activities of team members in order to achieve set targets.

  • Identifies learning and development needs of team members and recommends training and/or other interventions for them.

  • Assesses performance of team members.


Department Relations:


  • Maintains contact with all other related departments and/or Heads of Departments and Unit Heads of News, Engineering, Brands, Sales & Marketing departments.

  • Maintains contact with Chief Executive Officer and Chief Finance & Administration Officer on strategic matters.


External Relations: Maintains contact with key stakeholders in both the public and private sectors e.g. government agencies, professional bodies relating to Journalism, Brands, Advertising and Sales & Marketing i.e. Ghana Journalist Association, Chartered Institute of Marketing etc

Responsibilities for Assets: Has responsibility for ensuring that direct reports i.e. Heads of Departments in the following areas i.e. News, Brands, Engineering, Sales & Marketing to monitor the proper care and efficient use of office equipment, computers, computer accessories and other assets assigned to their departments


Skills and Experience required



  • A Masters in Business Administration or its equivalent from a recognized institution.

  • Professional Certification in Sales & Marketing, Corporate Communications, Brands Management

  • A minimum of ten (10) years’ work experience in Sales & Marketing, Brands Management or in a similar role.

  • Must have proven track record of leading a multi-disciplinary/functional team as a senior manager.

  • Awareness/ Understanding of Ghana’s media laws and Ghana’s Broadcasting Guidelines will be an added advantage.

  • Good knowledge of International best practices in Broadcasting Guidelines.

  • Good knowledge of current trends and best practices in News Reporting, Brands Management, Engineering and Sales & Marketing.

  • Good knowledge of organizational policies, systems and procedures.

  • Good leadership, negotiating and influencing skills.

  • Good presentation skills.

  • Proficient ICT skills.

  • Assertive.

  • Ability to handle delicate situations with tact and diplomacy.

  • Ability to engage with different levels of the workforce.

  • Ability to discipline employees when the need arises.

  • Must have high level integrity

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to influence and motivate direct reports to achieve set targets.

  • Ability to influence cooperation among employees in relation to compliance with existing policies, processes and procedures
