Clerk Job in Kenya


Position: Buying Clerk



Region: Mombasa,
Kenya



Industry: Manufacturing



Our client, East Africa’s
leading manufacturer and distributor of FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) with
a product line based on coconuts is urgently recruiting for a talented Buying
Clerk.



You will be responsible for the
purchase of coconuts from your assigned area, ensuring our client’s raw
material needs are met.



You will be responsible for
overseeing the sourcing, harvesting and collection of coconuts and achieving
target demands for the Company.




You will also be required to
maintain sustainable relationships with the assigned farmers for consistency in
supply of raw materials to the Company.



You are expected to report to
the Sourcing Supervisor on daily matters concerning raw materials prices,
availability and seasons.



You will also be required to
communicate on the interests of the farmers within the assigned villages.



You will collaborate closely with
the ICS Department to set targets from your assigned group of farmers and
coverage areas.



Key Responsibilities:




  • Execute the purchasing of coconuts from farmers within
    villages/farmer groups assigned by the Sourcing Supervisor to meet set
    demand.

  • Coordinates the team of harvesters and collectors in ensuring
    efficient harvesting to the farmers within the assigned villages.

  • Timely communication to the Sourcing Supervisor on foreseen
    nut sourcing concerns and threats in the assigned area of operation.

  • Adhere to purchasing and harvesting costs as communicated by
    the Sourcing Supervisor (relative to quality and quantity of nuts
    harvested in the area of operation).

  • Coordinates with the Sourcing Supervisor on collections of
    the harvested nuts. This includes providing necessary information
    (location, type of vehicle needed, and number of nuts) to the Sourcing
    Supervisor for follow up.

  • Coordinates with Field Officers to ensure good standards of
    raw materials and working practices are maintained on farms within the
    assigned villages.

  • Establish and maintain good working relationships between our
    client and the coconut suppliers.

  • Ensure prices being offered in the farms remain within the
    guidelines set down by the Company.

  • Reports on a daily basis to the Sourcing Supervisor on the
    harvests done; farmer harvested from, nuts quantities, status of the
    produce and any other field data/information.

  • Safeguards company assets that are at his/her disposal.

  • Ensures highest safety standards are observed when handling
    any raw materials.

  • Requests for payment of harvesters and collectors engaged in
    harvesting through petty cash vouchers and ensuring transparency of
    spending

  • Invent and negotiate best solutions to collection challenges
    and uncertainties in favour of the company.

  • Communicate to the Sourcing Supervisor regarding any broker
    activities in the assigned villages.

  • Ensure our client’s visibility throughout the villages of
    operation.

  • Make sound decisions regarding the safe storage of coconuts
    harvested as it awaits collection.

  • Identify any risks associated with the purchasing, harvesting
    and collection of coconuts, and minimize these risks by using techniques
    on farms. Communicate risks to the Sourcing Supervisor at all times.

  • Coordinate with Field Officers on discovering and registering
    potential new farmers and villages within the sourcing operation areas.

  • Adhere to all relevant guidelines and regulations of the
    Company.

  • Deliver 100% on sourcing target

  • 100% coverage of assigned farmers (farmer visits as per the
    provided work plan)

  • Ensure less than 5% downtime

  • Zero unaddressed farmer/harvester/collector complaints



Key Competencies & Qualifications




  • An undergraduate degree preferably in Business, Accounting,
    Finance, or Economics.

  • Certificate in a business/technical field

  • Proven work experience in handling and serving
    farmers/community for at least one year.

  • Proficient in both Kiswahili & English language

  • Excellent negotiating and persuasive abilities

  • One with sound work ethics.

  • Comfortable in writing and simple arithmetic. Can use a
    smartphone.

  • Reliable team player

  • Good time-management skills

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities

  • Licensed Motorbike ride
