Careers for 2014 KCSE Graduates

The Kenyan work force has a number of diverse employment opportunities as we say kazi ni kazi. But if I was to define a hot career, there are many factors to consider. A hot career definitely pays well, it challenges you in a positive manner as well as gives you room for growth and advancement and most importantly. Lest I forget, the best career has the most employment opportunities.
The KCSE results are out and the rush for the best courses will be the next big assignment for graduates.
If you recently graduated from high school and would want to pursue a hot career, make a point of considering this list.
1. Engineering
From electrical to computer, environmental and chemical engineering, an engineering degree offers a wide range of employment opportunities.
An engineering career is also lucrative as engineering graduates receive the highest paying starting salary in any level which explains why engineers earn six figure salaries.
The profession is also associated with prestige as a member of such a high paying and respected profession earns a good reputation in the society.
2. Architecture
Architects are normally concerned with the exterior and interior design of a building. So why should one study this course?
Apart from attaining good grades in the university, a career in architecture is one of the most lucrative and well paying careers in the industry. Once you graduate, you are likely to be employed by a large firm whether on contract or permanent basis.
3. Information Technology IT
It is a reality that this profession is growing as we have become increasingly reliant on technology to facilitate our every day operations.
This has made a career in IT more marketable and among the best. Any student considering this course has a very bright future.
The entry level salary for an IT Professional depending on the level of position is K’sh 40,000.
4. Medicine
A major reason of pursuing this career is that you will never miss a job opportunity because every country desperately needs the services of a medical practitioner.
Another reason why this career is hot is that doctors are always on the top of the society when it comes to respect.
The pay for a medical practitioner varies especially if one is employed by the government. On an entry level basis, one is expected to earn K’sh 70,000 but the pay can vary if employed by a private firm.
5. Procurement
Procurement professional normally deal with the purchasing of goods and services as well as maintaining records of financial information by most companies.
With the growing demand of such services and since it involves purchasing, there has to be good money if you pursue the career.
A procurement Practitioner earns a range of K’sh 50- 60K depending on the level of the position.
6. Human Resource
Human resource jobs are becoming common as most companies require their services in the hiring and firing department.
The entry level salary of a HR Practitioner is K’sh 30-60K depending on the company’s policies.
