ICAP of Columbia University is working in partnership with the Kenyan Ministry of Health to strengthen HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment services at County and Sub County health facilities.
This program is part of a US Government initiative against HIV in Kenya that receives funding from PEPFAR through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Applications are invited for the following position:
Title: Psychosocial & Mental Health Advisor
Location: Nairobi with travel to Counties
Overall function of the job: Reporting to the Director of Programs on day-to-day basis, the Psychosocial & Mental Health Advisor will oversee all psychosocial and mental health activities in ICAP program in Kenya.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the psychosocial and retention-in-care aspects of the ICAP program
- Strengthen links and referral mechanisms for mental health and psychosocial support services and activities
- Oversee treatment literacy activities at ICAP-supported facilities
- Oversee social workers, adherence counselors ,volunteer peer educators, mentor mothers and community health workers
- Lead strategies to reduce stigma and discrimination
- Lead strategies to promote assisted-disclosure of HIV status
- Assist with psychiatric aspects of medically- assisted therapy for people who inject drugs
Requirements
- Masters in social Science, Psychiatry Psychology or similar field. Candidates with PhD in relevant field will have an added advantage
- At least five (5) years relevant work experience
- Strong organizational and supervisory skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to and motivate staff effectively
