WWF, the Global Conservation Organization, through its office in Kenya, is seeking to fill the following position:

Position title: Project Manager, Energy & Climate Change

Reports to: Governance Coordinator
 Supervises: Project Assistant: Sustainable Energy
 Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Major Functions: Under the overall supervision and guidance of the Governance Coordinator, the Project Manager will be responsible for developing WWF Kenya’s Energy portfolio into a coherent and well-articulated programme in line with WWF’s Global Climate and Energy Initiative (GCEI) and the WWF Africa Office Strategic Plan and country interests. 

The manager will also facilitate vibrant engagement with civil society, the government and the private sector in the energy and related aspects in Kenya. S/he will also support the coordination and lesson sharing among WWF Teams and key partners in the respective projects.

The holder will support the Governance Coordinator in contributing to WWF’s Africa vision by harnessing WWF’s power through mobilizing people, knowledge, and partnerships within the energy and climate change sectors.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The Energy Programme Manager specific duties and responsibilities will be as follows:Take lead in the development of WWF Kenya Energy programme including the implementation of energy and energy-related projects and ensuring linkages with other internal and relevant external projects/programs.Lead in identifying and facilitating energy/climate change sector partner engagements including with development partners, civil society, government and private sector alongside fostering necessary rapport with other relevant stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration programme implementation.Take lead to ensure that the programme and associated project objectives and activities are achieved in a timely, cost-efficient and effective manner and where applicable in collaboration partners including providing technical inputs and management support to ongoing project and other activities including research, organising and facilitating meetings, preparing technical documents and managing the programme on a day to day basis.Be responsible for the planning and implementation of relevant training as well as follow up and mentoring of training participants in close cooperation with other partners;Provide leadership and oversight in project development and implementation, including financial accounting according to WWF guidelines.Facilitate strategic energy and climate change sector processes and promote the sharing of lessons and experiences with partners.Follow-up on project activities implemented under partner agreements, consultancies or similar arrangements, and ensure their timely and quality delivery.Prepare and submit quality and timely work plans, budgets and technical progress reports to WWF Kenya, the WWF regional office, donors and other partners as applicable.Communicate important developments in project implementation and management to participating organisations on a regular basis.Synthesize available information on petroleum development and develop strategic options and policy recommendations.Participate in media-opportunities (radio shows, tv, other) as requested and/or as appropriate.Develop cross-learning and exchange with other WWF Network, partners in Kenya, the region, and internationally as needed.Lead in the development and implementation of a suitable monitoring and Evaluation Plan Energy programme and associated projects.Work with other staff including the policy, landscape officers among others on areas of mutual interest to the projects and programmes within WWF Kenya ;Work closely with the Governance Coordinator to ensure successful delivery of the WWF Kenya energy and climate programme and associated projectsPerform any other similar duties as assigned by the supervisorManagement and Administration of third party contracts:Monitor relevant vendor and consultant contract implementation and supervise as appropriate.Plan and work with WWF finance team to fulfil internal and external budget tracking and reporting requirements.Work with the communication team to inform and share lessons issues at Country OfficeRequired Qualifications and ExperiencesA Masters degree in Energy and/or Climate Studies, Renewable Energy, Development Studies, Environmental and Natural Resource Management or related fields.At least 5 years of professional experience, with a minimum of 3 years work experience on energy or related issues is a requirement.Strong interpersonal and networking skills are a requirementExperience in implementing community mobilization, broad-based awareness raising, advocacy, lobbying and capacity building (e.g training, workshop facilitation and capacity building) is preferable.Practical experience in organization development, civil society engagement, communication, lobbying and policy advocacy engaging civil society, private sector and government on sustainable energy-related issues is a requirementPreferred Skills and Competencies:Strong interpersonal and networking skills are desirable.A proven ability to work independently as well as in teams is desired.Experience in environmental and natural resource management is an added advantage.Excellent partnership, relationship management and diplomatic skills;Strong planning and analytical skills;Excellent organizational skills and a strong capacity to work independently;Ability to work within a multidisciplinary and multicultural team;Good command of English and Kiswahili both written and spokenAbility to work under tight deadlines, and high pressure situations;Adheres to WWF’s values, which are: Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined, and Engaging.External and Internal: Works with WWF field project teams; civil society, clean energy and policy officers, civil society, governments at national and county levels; and private sector. academia, think-tank institutions, development organisations among others.

Social and Behavior Change (SBC) Coordinator
Duration of the Contract: Twelve (12) months, with the possibility of extension
International Medical Corps (IMC) is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs.
Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization.

Its mission is to improve quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide.


By offering training and health care to local populations and medical and nutrition assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.


The SBC Coordinator, based in Mogadishu, will provide support to International Medical Corps’ nutrition programs in south-central Somalia and Somaliland. Specifically, the SBC Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the smooth implementation of activities designed to promote behavior change for improved maternal and child nutrition.

He/She will train and provide ongoing supportive supervision to local implementing partners and International Medical Corps’ field-based national staff.



Specific Responsibilities and Tasks:

Implement and Monitor Social and Behavior Change ActivitiesTrain and provide ongoing supportive supervision to national implementing partners and International Medical Corps’ field-based national staff in promoting improved maternal and child nutrition through the Care Group model, home micronutrient fortification, and other community-based SBC activities.Develop and operationalize a plan for building the capacity of national implementing partners to promote SBC for IYCF through the Care Group model.Liaise with Directorate of Health, local authorities, and other key stakeholders to build national capacity to promote improved nutrition levels through the Care Group model.Coordinate with IMAM programs and health facilities to encourage cross-referrals.Prepare an M&E plan for all SBC-related activitiesResponsible for timely and accurate collection of data against indicators, in line with donor reporting requirements; ensure experiences and lessons are well-documented; prepare weekly progress reports for submission to International Medical Corps Program CoordinatorWork with the Nutrition Coordinator to prepare regular narrative reports, in line with donor reporting requirements, for submission to donor.Work with International Medical Corps technical staff to develop and conduct surveys and evaluations as needed (e.g. KAP, SMART, Barrier analysis, etc.)Other duties as determined in consultation with International Medical Corps technical and program management staff.Master’s degree in nutrition or public health, with focus in nutrition/medical anthropology/behavior change, AND 5+ years of relevant work experience (minimum 3 years in developing country); ORBachelor’s degree in nutrition and 7+ years of relevant work experience (minimum 5 years in developing country)Experience:Previous SBC experience; promotion of IYCF through Care Group model highly preferred;Experience working in settings where both acute malnutrition and stunting are significant public health issuesKnowledge of the latest best-practices and standards related to nutritionStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to relate to and motivate local staff effectivelyAbility to work in hardship conditions and in conflict settingsDemonstrated strengths in writing and critical thinking; strong computer skillsKnowledge of/experience with the Somalia context is a plus

The International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN is the world’s oldest and largest global environmental organization.

IUCN operates through regional offices including the Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO).

ESARO has the following programmes in fulfilling its inter-sessional goals: drylands programme, water and wetlands programme, forest programme, business and biodiversity programme and conservation areas and species diversity programme.

The vacant position falls under the regional drylands programme.
The goal of the ESARO drylands programme is that “Dryland landscapes are sustainably managed to protect biodiversity and contribute to local livelihoods and national economies”.

IUCN will use its influence to encourage and assist societies to promote good governance and to respect local knowledge to ensure that dryland ecosystems are sustainably managed.

To protect Drylands Biodiversity, IUCN addresses the underlying constraints to effective natural resource governance, builds the institutional capacity for sustainable natural resource management, and supports access to markets for the products of sustainably managed drylands.

The Participation for Change Project within the drylands programme goal is to ensure the development of appropriate pastoralist policies in East Africa that are based on local participation and knowledge and that enhance food security for pastoralist communities.

Specifically the project aims to strengthen the engagement and coordination of indigenous pastoral associations in local and national food-security-related policy processes to promote participation, accountability and transparency in policy formulation and implementation.

The main results areas are:

Strengthened capacity of pastoralists association to effectively participate in evidence-based decision-making related to food security, at local, national and cross border levels.Increased opportunities to effectively engage with decision-makers on food security-related issues at local, national and cross border levels and link to regional and global networks.Greater generation, use and sharing of local and scientific knowledge and learning on ecosystem based approaches to dryland food security across local pastoralist associations, to influence national and regional policies.Support to key food security-related biodiversity enterprises which model policies in practice and support linkages across pastoralist community groups.IUCN is therefore inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following position:Field Officer, Participation for Change Project

Under the general supervision of the Senior Programme Officer; he/she will ensure the coordination, and implementation of the project in Northern Kenya and Ethiopia.

He /she will ensure that the project outputs and deliverables are effectively attained within the project time frame. 

Specific responsibilities include:

The position requires a professional with at least 3 years of professional field experience in the implementation of projects within the natural resource management or pastoral development sectors. The following specific qualifications are required:A university degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, or natural resources management. A Master’s degree will be an added advantage.Experience with results-based project cycle management including monitoring and evaluation methodologies and principles and project budget management.Experience in community based natural resource management (CBNRM).A good understanding of drylands conservation and sustainable development issues.Experience in interacting with multiple stakeholders including local government officials and in mobilising and developing relationships with local communities.A track record of constructive advocacy with decision-makers and of influencing the outcomes of policy debates.Good communication skills and proven writing ability.Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.High personal integrity especially in matters related to finance, official information and communications.Ability to work with minimum supervision and function in multicultural and remote environments.A good team worker who can also display leadership abilities.Willingness to travel extensively within the region for not less than 40% of work year, sometimes at a short notice.
